2026 Black Health Summit, set for June 16, 2026, at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Miami. This summit, which has become a significant event over the past five years, aims to unite grassroots leaders, health professionals, youth advocates, and systems changemakers to promote equity, justice, and thriving Black communities across South Florida.
Dr. Mitchell, who was recently inaugurated as the
126th President of the National Medical Association (NMA), brings extensive expertise in health equity. With his prominent role at Howard University Hospital and recognition as a leading forensic pathologist, he is expected to provide valuable insights and leadership at the summit. The NMA holds the distinction of being the oldest and largest organization representing Black physicians and their patients throughout the nation.
The 2026 summit marks the fourth year of in-person events, which will focus on the power of collaboration in promoting health equity. Loreen Chant, President and CEO of the Health Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for Dr. Mitchell's involvement. "Dr. Mitchell's leadership at the intersection of health and advocacy makes him the perfect voice to carry this year's Summit forward," said Chant. Her sentiment highlights the importance of fostering intergenerational leadership and understanding how various systems influence community health outcomes.
During his keynote, Dr. Mitchell will delve into the significance of cross-generational partnerships, emphasizing the power of lived experiences and youth-led initiatives in driving systemic transformation within public health and policy-making. As communities continue to face challenges related to health disparities, his perspective is expected to resonate deeply with attendees and invoke a sense of urgency in pursuing actionable change.
The Black Health Summit serves as a platform not just for awareness but also for tangible, strategic solutions aimed at enhancing the welfare of Black communities in the region. Last year’s event brought together diverse voices and perspectives, and this year promises to build on that momentum.
