Coca-Cola's Commitment to Empowering Girls in STEM
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo and led by CEO Karin Dragan, recently organized a unique tour aimed at empowering high school girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. This initiative is part of the "Girls Meet STEM" program, promoted by the Shin-Taro Yamada D&I Foundation.
On November 15, 2025, 56 participants, including high school girls and their parents, visited the company's Tama Factory. The event included an introduction to the Coca-Cola system and in-depth information about the factory's operations. Participants toured various factory facilities and production lines, gaining firsthand experience of the manufacturing process behind the beloved Coca-Cola products.
One of the highlights of the event was a discussion session featuring three female employees who graduated with degrees in science and have successfully built careers across diverse sectors within the company. They shared their experiences and insights about how they leverage their scientific knowledge and skills in their current roles. Participants were encouraged to ask candid questions, expressing their concerns about choosing a career in STEM. The employees provided valuable advice based on their own experiences, illustrating the myriad of career paths available to those with a foundation in science and technology.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the event's impact. One participant mentioned that learning how previous research in marine sciences applies to her work at a beverage company motivated her to focus more intently on her studies. Another echoed similar sentiments, realizing that the choices made by successful professionals were grounded in clearly defined reasoning. Insights into overcoming failures were also enlightening, with one employee sharing how they proactively prevent similar mistakes in the future, fostering a positive approach to challenges.
The Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan representative commented on the event's success, expressing satisfaction that attendees recognized the diverse career opportunities available, regardless of whether their background is in the humanities or sciences. The company prides itself on being a place where employees from various educational backgrounds can thrive and contribute meaningfully.
The "Girls Meet STEM" program, co-organized by the Shin-Taro Yamada D&I Foundation, aims to provide middle and high school girls the opportunity to connect with professionals working in STEM fields. This initiative encourages students to explore their interests and career aspirations within these critical disciplines, ensuring a future workforce that is both diverse and innovative.
In line with its mission to deliver happiness to all and create value, Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan is committed to contributing to community development and addressing social issues.
