Hyundai Motor America has reinforced its dedication to the safety of children by extending its partnership with Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). This collaboration is essential in promoting child passenger and pedestrian safety in local communities. The auto manufacturer has made a generous donation of $100,000 towards CHLA’s Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program.

This program is designed to educate families about safety measures and provide essential resources for ensuring children's safety. With this funding, CHLA can expand the number of events dedicated to child passenger and pedestrian safety across Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Impactful Initiatives and Community Engagement


Hyundai and CHLA have already conducted over 10 events focusing on child safety, benefiting nearly 850 children. Throughout these initiatives, the teams have successfully provided more than 125 car seat replacements to ensure that families have the most reliable safety equipment.

The collaboration aims to address a significant issue highlighted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which reports that almost 50% of car seats and booster seats are either improperly installed or misused. These safety seats can reduce the risk of fatal injuries by as much as 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers, a statistic that underscores the importance of these safety checks and educational programs.

Brian Latouf, the global chief safety and quality officer at Hyundai Motor Group, stated, “We are excited to strengthen our partnership with CHLA. Our mutual goal is to enhance child passenger and pedestrian safety within our communities.” He emphasized that public education plays a crucial role in equipping families with knowledge and skills necessary for transporting their loved ones safely.

Educational Events to Foster Safety Awareness


The partnership will also see a range of child safety seat inspections being conducted throughout the year in both Los Angeles and Orange Counties. These events will feature certified child passenger safety technicians who will provide complimentary inspections to families, ensuring that car seats meet all necessary safety criteria, including checking for recalls and expiration dates.

In addition, the initiative includes LA Street Smarts events that aim to educate children about pedestrian safety. This engaging program uses a mobile life-size setup that simulates real traffic scenarios complete with traffic signals. It is a practical approach to teach children about street hazards and safe crossing techniques. This unique setup was showcased at the Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety recently, demonstrating an interactive method of educating youngsters and caregivers alike.
