The Duck® Brand Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest has captured the creative spirits of high school students across North America for 25 years. This unique contest encourages teens to design and create their own prom attire using Duck Tape®, offering not just a chance at creative expression but also hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships. Since its inception in 2001, the contest has grown immensely, becoming a beloved tradition for high school students seeking a colorful and innovative way to showcase their fashion talents.

A Rich History of Creativity


The contest has inspired over 8,500 participants who have collectively dedicated more than 400,000 hours to fashioning their prom ensembles, amounting to the use of over 100,000 rolls of Duck Tape®. As the 25th anniversary approaches, Duck Brand is thrilled to invite another wave of creative students to take part in this exciting milestone.

Kerry Haugh, the director of product marketing at Shurtape Technologies, LLC, which manages the Duck brand, expressed the importance of this contest: "Stuck at Prom has become a launchpad for imaginative students, giving them a platform to showcase their talents while supporting their pursuit of a dream career." With a focus on craftsmanship and originality, participants are not just competing for monetary awards but also gaining invaluable experience in design and artistry.

How the Contest Works


Starting this year, students from the U.S. and Canada can submit their original prom creations now through June 4. Eligible participants must be at least 14 years old and enrolled in high school. The entries are evaluated on originality, use of colors, workmanship, and accessories, while also adhering to the primary material requirement of Duck Tape®.

From the submissions, a panel of judges will narrow down the entries to ten finalists, five in the dress category and five in the tuxedo category. The exciting phase of online voting will occur from June 25 to July 9, where the public has the chance to vote for their favorite designs. The Grand Prize winners in each category will receive a generous scholarship of $15,000 each, while eight runners-up will be awarded $1,000 and Duck Brand prize packs valued at $100.

In addition to the main categories, new this year are the judges' choice awards. Contestants can win additional prizes for unique aspects such as 'Runway Worthy' for stunning and trendy designs, 'Most Inspiring' for impactful stories shared via video or essay, and 'Trust E.'s Choice', celebrated by the beloved Duck Brand mascot, Trust E. Duck.

Each year, the styles demonstrate remarkable evolution, reflecting new trends and artistic expressions while maintaining a core spirit of imaginative craftsmanship.
