How Argent Technology Engages High School Students with Edge AI to Address Social Issues

Addressing Social Issues with Edge AI: A Special Lecture by Argent Technology

Argent Technology, a company specializing in AI development in the areas of image and video recognition, has recently taken a significant step in engaging the next generation. On July 2, 2025, the company organized a special lecture at Tsuchiura First High School in Ibaraki Prefecture as part of the inquiry-based learning program provided by BatonLink. The initiative aimed to introduce high school students to the practical applications of AI technology, focusing specifically on Edge AI and its real-world problem-solving capabilities.

The Lecture

During the session, the representative director of Argent Technology, Taichi Akase, took the podium to explain the benefits of Edge AI and share various case studies that highlight its potential in solving contemporary challenges. This presentation not only aimed to broaden the students' understanding of AI technology but also emphasized the allure of working within small businesses. The lecture presented a unique opportunity for 40 first-year high school students to engage with cutting-edge technology and learn how it can be leveraged for meaningful impact.

The lecture was part of BatonLink's "High School Student Angle" program, which invites students to tackle real-world problems posed by companies, encouraging them to develop their inquiry skills. Participants were guided through lectures and preliminary learning sessions organized by the companies, providing them with insights into industry structures and helping them collaborate in teams to develop viable solutions to the challenges presented.

Background and Motivation

As the world faces declining labor populations leading to labor shortages and technological stagnation across various sectors, including civil infrastructure, agriculture, and manufacturing, Argent Technology is committed to addressing these societal issues. By employing image recognition capabilities and high-speed image processing, the company is developing web systems aimed at mitigating these challenges and enhancing efficiency.

In recent years, high schools in Japan have incorporated inquiry-based learning into their curriculums to foster essential skills for adapting to an ever-changing society. The goal is to cultivate students' abilities to tackle problems effectively and contemplate their life paths. This approach aligns closely with Argent Technology’s mission of problem-solving through technological innovation, making the collaboration a natural fit.

Initiatives and Future Prospects

Leveraging its expertise in image recognition and high-speed image processing, Argent Technology provided insights into various AI technologies, including cloud AI and Edge AI. Additionally, actual case studies showcasing problem-solving methods and contemporary business challenges were shared, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the landscape they may enter in the future.

Following the lecture, students were invited to select challenges and develop solutions, with a poster presentation and feedback session scheduled for January 2026. Argent Technology is dedicated to its mission of leveraging AI and web system development technologies to address various issues, and they plan to continue similar initiatives to inspire students.
