AlphaESS Secures BloombergNEF Tier 1 Status for Fifth Consecutive Quarter
In a significant achievement, AlphaESS has been named a Tier 1 global energy storage manufacturer by BloombergNEF (BNEF) for the fifth time in its Q4 2026 report. This recognition underscores AlphaESS's solid reputation and extensive experience in the energy storage arena, particularly in large-scale utility projects around the globe.
BNEF's Tier 1 designation is not easily attained, especially in this quarter which incorporated stricter bankability criteria. Energy storage equipment manufacturers were required to substantiate their project credentials with non-recourse financing from at least two commercial banks over numerous qualifying projects. AlphaESS’s continuous presence in this elite category offers a reliable reference point for energy developers, investors, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners assessing potential energy storage solutions.
Expansion of Utility-Scale Projects Across Europe
AlphaESS is actively advancing its portfolio with large-scale energy storage projects across Europe. Notable developments include installations in Lithuania, Austria, and Germany, collectively totaling 200 MWh. In Lithuania, a 120 MWh battery energy storage project utilizing the AlphaESS Aster 5000 system has passed its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and is ready for shipment.
In Austria, AlphaESS has delivered the direct current (DC) battery system for a pioneering 30 MW / 60 MWh project located in Hörsching. This initiative integrates solar energy generation, battery storage, and electric truck charging systems, simultaneously aiding in grid services and backup power. The grid-services segment, comprising 40 MWh, became operational in September 2026, signifying a major milestone for the project.
Germany is also on the receiving end of AlphaESS’s cutting-edge technology, with the company supplying the DC battery system for a 20 MWh project in Bavaria. This installation is designed for grid balancing and energy arbitrage, with an expected commissioning date set for 2027.
Innovative Technology: Powered by Aster 5000
Central to these utility-scale undertakings is the AlphaESS Aster 5000, a liquid-cooled battery energy storage system fashioned into a 20-foot container, with around 5 MWh of capacity per unit. This flexible system features intelligent thermal management and an advanced battery management system along with multi-layer safety protections, ensuring its suitability across a spectrum of utility applications, including grid stabilization and renewable energy integration.
These projects, coupled with the robust technology of the Aster 5000, demonstrate AlphaESS's evolving capabilities to provide scalable energy storage solutions tailored to a diverse range of market demands.
