Newark Public Schools Launches Reality Shows
Newark Public Schools (NPS) is set to debut its exciting new reality series,
Newark Fashion Forward and
Newark Chops, on the In The Black Network (ITBN) starting October 31st, 2025. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in showcasing the creative talents of students as they gain national exposure through innovative programming by NPS.
Both shows are filmed entirely within the classrooms, kitchens, and design studios of Newark Public Schools, highlighting the district's
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. NPS Superintendent,
León, emphasized the importance of this partnership with In The Black, indicating that the series will reveal to the nation the brilliance and talent of Newark students. This initiative is a testament to the innovative educational environment being fostered within the district.
Newark Fashion Forward
Newark Fashion Forward takes viewers behind the scenes at the Newark School of Fashion Design. In this series, aspiring student designers showcase their creativity by presenting their original fashion collections to a panel of professional judges. The competitive nature of this show serves not just to entertain, but to inspire young designers to pursue their dreams in the fashion industry. Newark Chops
On the culinary front,
Newark Chops focuses on students from the Culinary Arts Academy at Newark Vocational High School. In each episode, young chefs participate in high-pressure cooking challenges, which are judged by experienced chefs and restaurateurs. This competition not only highlights culinary skills but also reinforces the importance of teamwork and creativity in the fast-paced culinary world.

As NPS continues to expand its innovative programming and facilities, including the opening of new schools since regaining local control in 2018, these reality shows stand as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the future of its students. NPS' rich history spans back to 1676 and now serves over 41,000 students across 65 schools, making it the largest school district in New Jersey.
