Wanhua Chemical Partners with ElevenEs to Localize Battery Supply Chains in Europe

Strategic Collaboration between Wanhua Chemical and ElevenEs

In a significant step towards enhancing local supply chains for battery materials in Europe, Wanhua Chemical Battery Technology Co., Ltd. and ElevenEs, a leading European manufacturer of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, have recently entered into a strategic partnership. This collaboration is aimed at establishing a localized supply of battery cathode materials that is expected to bolster the sustainability efforts within the new energy sector. The signing ceremony took place in Meishan, Sichuan, attended by notable figures from both companies, including Wanhua's General Manager, Wang Xiaoxing, and ElevenEs' CEO, Nemanja Mikać.

Objectives of the Agreement

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlines the two companies' intentions to work closely on developing high-quality raw materials, such as LFP, along with an array of additional components like PVDF binders and NMP solvents. By pooling their resources and expertise, Wanhua Chemical and ElevenEs aim to accelerate their respective developments while ensuring environmental sustainability.

Wanhua Chemical brings several advantages to the partnership, built upon decades of experience in materials development, engineering research, and a well-established production framework for battery components. The company has created an integrated platform for cathode and anode materials, including the necessary binders and solvents tailored for the LFP production process.

Building a Technical Team

As part of the agreement, both parties will form a technical team responsible for exchanging market and technical information, which will facilitate swifter product development cycles. Wanhua’s global supply chain expertise will support ElevenEs’ efforts in establishing battery production facilities in Serbia, further enhancing the local supply chain for essential materials.

Wang Xiaoxing emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating that it represents a key milestone in achieving localized supply chains for battery materials within Europe. By leveraging Wanhua's strength in research and development, combined with efficient production processes, they aim to deliver high-performance LFP cathode materials and integrated solutions to ElevenEs.

Significance for ElevenEs

Nemanja Mikać also shared insights on the partnership, highlighting Wanhua Chemical's in-depth experience in battery materials and robust production capabilities. He expressed that this alliance is expected to significantly support ElevenEs in securing local supply chain stability while also fostering innovation. The collaboration aims to provide more competitive LFP battery solutions within the European market.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, both companies are committed to expanding their cooperation in fields such as electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS). Their plans extend to continuous collaboration in battery materials development, product innovation, market expansion, and more. The overarching goal is to create a mutually beneficial scenario that solidifies their leadership positions within the global new energy industry.

About ElevenEs

ElevenEs is part of Al Pack Group, an international leader in aluminum processing with over 30 years of high-precision manufacturing experience that closely ties to LFP battery production. It has garnered support from EIT InnoEnergy, a recognized global investor in sustainable energy, and established a cutting-edge R&D center since June 2021. Following the successful launch of its pilot production line in mid-2023, ElevenEs is poised to build its initial megafactory with a capacity of approximately 1 GWh by 2025-2026. Plans are in place for a Gigafactory with an annual output target of 8 GWh, which will expand further to a total capacity of 40 GWh by 2031.

This strategic alliance marks a pivotal evolution not only for Wanhua Chemical and ElevenEs but also for the burgeoning landscape of sustainable energy solutions in Europe.
