TCL X5 Energy Storage System Launches in Europe: A New Era in Hybrid Energy Solutions
TCL X5 Energy Storage System Now Available in Europe
TCL SunPower, a recognized leader in the solar energy industry, has announced that its innovative hybrid energy storage system, the TCL X5, is ready for orders throughout Europe. This launch marks a significant step forward, diversifying TCL SunPower’s array of products beyond just solar generation and residential solutions to include advanced commercial and industrial applications.
Simplifying Energy Storage Installation
The X5 is specifically designed to ease the process of commercial battery installations. Unlike conventional systems requiring separate inverters that must be assembled on-site, the X5 features a compact design with a 50 kW hybrid inverter conveniently integrated within its cabinet. This factory-assembled solution significantly reduces both installation complexity and on-site labor requirements. With TCL's approach, the company estimates that installation costs could be reduced by as much as 60% compared to traditional models.
Steven Zhang, General Manager at TCL SunPower Global, emphasized the importance of this launch. He stated, “X5 represents the first step in our broader strategy to introduce a comprehensive portfolio of commercial and industrial energy solutions to Europe.” He also highlighted that the company plans to progressively develop its offerings, catering to a wider range of customer needs over the next year.
Addressing Market Demands
The TCL X5 addresses specific market segments that are too small for custom-engineered systems yet too high in energy demand for standard residential solutions. It is versatile enough to support multiple applications, including on-grid, off-grid, and microgrid operations. The X5 can seamlessly switch operations within 20 milliseconds and has the capability to operate independently without any grid connection. Furthermore, it can accept generator input up to 138 kVA, providing additional flexibility for users.
The base unit of the X5 is rated at either 50 kWh or 100 kWh and can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 400 kWh by connecting up to four units in parallel. This modular design allows businesses to start with a single unit and scale up as their energy demands grow, avoiding the need for complete system replacements.
Compact and Durable Design
The compact design of the cabinet, measuring just 1.90 meters in height and occupying a footprint of 1.37 square meters, makes X5 suitable for various applications, including rooftop installations and industrial settings. It is built to endure diverse weather conditions, operating in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 50°C. The system’s IP66 rating for the inverter and IP55 for the cabinet ensure robust protection against dust and water ingress, which is essential for outdoor installations.
Safety Features and Management
Safety is paramount with the TCL X5. It incorporates multiple layers of monitoring across the cabinet, battery packs, and individual cells that support critical safety mechanisms including fire suppression, gas detection, and arc-fault interruption. The system is managed through TCL's EMS controller, accessible via both web and app interfaces, and is prepped for Virtual Power Plant (VPP) integration, complying with stringent GDPR and ETSI EN303645 cybersecurity standards.
Real-World Applications
Initial installations have already highlighted the X5's versatility. One such project in Spain involved the transformation of an off-grid solar water-pumping system into a hybrid system using the X5. The upgrade allowed surplus solar energy to be stored for later use, thereby extending the operation of the pumping system beyond sunlight hours, significantly enhancing its efficiency. Adolfo Bartolomé Redondo, Renewable Energy Head at Electricidad EUFON, praised the X5 for its user-friendly architecture and off-grid capabilities, which allowed easy integration with existing automation systems.
Looking Ahead
TCL SunPower is committed to ensuring that the X5 is readily available throughout Europe, complemented by technical support covering aspects such as installation, commissioning, and warranty. For those interested in learning more about the TCL X5, an upcoming webinar co-hosted by TCL SunPower and pv magazine will take place on October 23, providing further insights into the system’s capabilities.
