Career Experience Program in Logistics and IT for Students
In a bid to bridge the gap between education and vital industries, the Pal System Federation is hosting a special career experience program tailored for middle and high school students. Set to take place on August 4 and 5, 2025, from 1 PM to 4 PM at their logistics and IT experience facility in Inagi City, this initiative aims to shed light on the logistics sector, often referred to as the "lifeblood of the economy." This initiative underlines the significance of logistics systems in sustainable practices, especially in relation to reducing food waste through cooperative delivery services.
Exploring the Delivery System through Experiential Learning
The venue for this immersive program, the Inagi Center, regularly holds the "Job Experience" program organized by Pal System. Facilities include sorting machines used in actual logistics operations alongside engaging formats such as original videos, panels, and tablets designed for younger audiences. With the backing of the Inagi City Board of Education, this program underscores the importance of engaging younger generations in understanding logistics operations and information systems that support these processes.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to delve deeper into the mechanics of logistics information systems, engaging with hands-on activities and workshops. Using sorting machines and information technology, students will explore the journey of delivering over 10 million items weekly to 800,000 households, providing insights into modern society's rapid digitalization.
Understanding Sustainable Practices through Cooperative Services
One of the core messages of the program is how a weekly cooperative delivery service contributes to sustainable development goals (SDGs). By ordering the necessary food items in advance, students will learn about sustainable systems aimed at minimizing food waste. The program encourages students to consider the impact of their choices on sustainability and promotes a lifestyle that contributes positively to the society and the environment.
As part of their engagement, participants will not only learn about logistics and IT but also discuss how such cooperative efforts can help combat global challenges as part of the larger SDGs agenda. This naturally ties back to the broader initiative known as the Tokyo Children’s Smile Movement, which focuses on creating impactful experiences for young people in the city.
Practical Information for Aspiring Participants
The career experience is limited to 12 students, making it an intimate setting that fosters meaningful interactions. Those interested should apply before the deadline on July 16, 2025. The event will take place in Inagi City, specifically at the Pal System Federation's office located at 2111 Hyakumura, Inagi City.
For your convenience, you can access the venue via a 15-minute walk from Inagi Station, or take a bus from the station to Inagi Chuo Park, which is a 5-minute walk from the drop-off point. Alternatively, from the Minami-Tama Station, it's a 20-minute walk, or a short bus ride to the Consumer Life Center, just a 3-minute stroll from the stop.
This initiative proudly aligns with the upcoming International Year of Cooperatives in 2025, encouraging the next generation to explore the essential roles of logistics and IT in today’s economy. Embark on this educational journey to understand how logistics and information technology work together to create sustainable practices.
