FANCL's Green Initiative: Upcycling for a Greener Future
FANCL, a leading beauty brand, has reached a remarkable milestone with the donation of over 25,000 upcycled flowerpots in Yokohama. Through the
FANCL Recycling Program, the company collects used cosmetic containers to transform them into eco-friendly flowerpots, playing an essential role in the city's green initiatives.
Since the program's inception in July 2021, FANCL has been actively collecting cosmetic containers from customers across its nationwide stores. By the end of October 2025, the program aims to collect approximately 1.37 million containers, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable practices. After collection, these containers are sorted, cleaned, dried, and crushed at FANCL’s subsidiary,
FANCL Smile, before being upcycled into flowerpots.
These flowerpots are not just a product; they are integral to various community projects. The pots are utilized in the
Garden Necklace Yokohama, an initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s floral and green landscapes, as well as in the
Life Memorial Tree Project which gifts saplings to celebrate significant life events. Both initiatives reflect FANCL’s dedication to enriching the community.
As part of its ongoing efforts, in 2025, FANCL is collaborating with Yokohama City and Funabashi City to host
“Flower and Green Workshops” for families. These workshops aim to educate participants about the environment while allowing them to create their own unique flowerpots. Such initiatives have been positively received, fostering a connection between environmental learning and community engagement.
Examples of Flowerpot Utilization:
1.
FANCL x Funabashi City x Tobu Department Store x Karen Flowers (August 23, 2025): A family-friendly event where participants create floral arrangements using materials that would have otherwise been discarded.
2.
Satoyama Garden Festa (Garden Necklace Yokohama) (September 20, 2025): A Halloween decoration workshop led by well-known gardening expert Masashi Mikami, focusing on autumn arrangements.
3.
Kawasaki City 1.5 Million Tree Planting Event (October 18, 2025): DONATION of 150 flowerpots to participants of the planting festival.
4.
Yokohama City Life Memorial Tree: Flowerpots are donated along with locally grown saplings to commemorate significant life moments.
FANCL’s Recycling Program has evolved into a crucial part of its corporate philosophy, striving to achieve a circular economy by reducing plastic waste. By maintaining partnerships with local governments and actively engaging the community, FANCL looks to expand its environmental initiatives. Their goal is to provide enjoyable opportunities for everyone to participate in environmental conservation, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Through collective action and a shared vision for sustainability, FANCL continues to champion eco-friendly practices, encouraging others to follow suit in building a greener world.
