Global 50x50 Initiative Aims for Gender Parity in Cybersecurity
On October 28, 2025, the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, part of ISC2, announced the launch of the
Global 50x50 Initiative. This groundbreaking movement aspires to achieve 50% representation of women in the cybersecurity workforce by the year 2050. As one of the leading nonprofit organizations for cybersecurity professionals worldwide, ISC2 is advocating for a collective effort to eliminate the gender gap in this vital field.
Building a Collaborative Effort
Fifteen prominent organizations have committed their support to the
Global 50x50 Initiative. The initiative combines a diverse array of partners from industry, government, nonprofits, and educational institutions. Together, they aim to promote programs that not only close the gender gap but also create pathways for women to flourish in cybersecurity. Some of these inaugural partners include:
- - ISC2
- - Australian Women in Security Network
- - Brahmam Innovations
- - Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu
- - Cybersafe Foundation
- - And many others.
Given that women currently make up less than 25% of the cybersecurity workforce, the initiative underscores the pressing need for collaboration to improve gender diversity in the field. The Global 50x50 Initiative encourages additional partnerships, including corporations, educators, and policymakers, to join this significant mission.
Strategic Framework for Action
The Global 50x50 Initiative is further complemented by the development of a
Global Action Framework. This framework was developed through extensive research and collaborative input from a global task force of cybersecurity experts. It delineates eight action areas aimed at creating more opportunities for women across six different career stages. These actions include:
1. Career Awareness and Navigation
2. Mentorship and Sponsorship
3. Communities and Peer Support
4. Education and Training
5. Financial Access
6. Pathways to Employment
7. Holistic Support
8. Public Visibility
By focusing on these critical areas, the initiative aims to enhance recruitment, retention, and advancement for women in the cybersecurity landscape. Dwan Jones, the Center’s Director of Inclusive Strategies and Engagement, emphasized that increasing women's representation will lead to stronger cybersecurity teams enriched by diverse perspectives and skills.
Opportunities to Engage
There are numerous ways in which individuals and organizations can become involved with the
Global 50x50 Initiative. Opportunities include:
- - Partnership and sponsorship
- - Mentorship programs
- - Advocacy for inclusion initiatives
- - Financial contributions to support scholarships and training programs
