Tamachi Children's Yatai Championship 2026: A Unique Business Adventure for Kids

Tamachi Children's Yatai Championship 2026: Empowering Young Entrepreneurs

On September 19 and 20, 2026, the Tamachi Children's Yatai Championship will be hosted at Tamachi Center, inviting elementary school students in grades four to six to experience a practical approach to business. Organized by the Ochiai Summer Festival Organizing Committee and supported by the Tamachi City Council, this event aims to immerse children in real-world business practices within the vibrant setting of a traditional summer festival.

Event Overview

The venue will be located at Parthenon Dori, a significant landmark in Tamachi Center, where a designated stall area will be set up for participating children. Unlike years past, when they simply enjoyed the festivities as spectators, this year the students will take on the role of entrepreneurs. They will not only set up stalls to sell goods but will also engage in a full cycle of business activities, from planning and budgeting to selling and customer interaction. This unique challenge supports the festival's aim to invigorate the local community with new energy brought by the youthful participants.

Objectives and Challenges of the Event

1. Engagement at Parthenon Dori: The children will revitalize this central thoroughfare through their creative endeavors. This pedestrian area, connecting Tamachi Station to Parthenon Tama, will transform into a hub of activity where young influencers make their mark, bringing life and excitement back to this festive street.

2. Integrating Tradition with Practical Learning: The event serves as a vibrant classroom, teaching students through hands-on experience. They will undergo a comprehensive business process, supported by mentors from the Tamachi Junior Chamber of Commerce. Focused on nurturing their autonomy while providing expert guidance, these mentors will cultivate essential business skills in the young participants.

The Business Steps for Participants

Participants will not only engage in sales but will also experience the following process:

1. Brainstorming: Each team will select a type of stall from ten options, including cotton candy, badge making, keychains, and shaved ice, aiming to create appealing and sellable products through collaborative idea generation.

2. Creation: Teams will work together to design and produce their chosen products. They'll create eye-catching signs and decorations for their booths, conducting profit simulations to determine pricing and sales goals.

3. Sales and Customer Service: Over two days, teams will sell their products to festival attendees, gaining real-life sales experience and customer interaction.

4. Award Ceremony: Beyond sales figures, participants will be evaluated on creativity, teamwork, and operational ingenuity. The awards will take place at the central bon-odori stage, celebrating the achievements of all teams.

5. Community Sharing: Earnings from the stalls will be converted into vouchers usable at local food stalls participating in the 'TAMA DISCOVERY FOOD' event and craft beer venues. This encourages meaningful family moments as children can treat their parents to delicious meals from their own 'first paycheck'.

The Tamachi Children's Yatai Championship is open for application to local elementary students in grades four to six, with a team limit of 30 participants. Interested students must attend a preparatory workshop on August 30, 2026, to participate.
