NEW FUKUI Exhibition: A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity
Discover the captivating world of Fukui craftsmanship at the upcoming "NEW FUKUI" exhibition, set to be held at Matsuya Ginza, Tokyo, from February 18 to 24, 2026. This unique event showcases the rich heritage of Fukui's traditional art forms—such as Echizen lacquerware, Sabae wood carving, and Echizen washi—while integrating contemporary aesthetics and functionality.
Since its inception in 2017, the NEW FUKUI project has become a platform for artisans and creators from Fukui to engage directly with the public. They cultivate meaningful relationships through face-to-face interactions at the exhibition, where the makers themselves run the sales floor, emphasizing the importance of storytelling alongside each handcrafted piece. In doing so, they aim to convey the essence and future of Fukui's craftsmanship, striving to create new values through collaboration across diverse industries.
