Okayama University Hosts 28th Regional Development Committee Meeting
On October 17, 2025, the 28th session of the Okayama Regional Development Committee was convened at Okayama University's Tsushima Campus, located in the North District of Okayama City. Guided by President Yasutomo Nasu, the committee focuses on seeking collaborative solutions for local challenges.
Established on April 1, 2016, the Okayama Regional Development Committee serves as a platform where various stakeholders from industry, government, academia, finance, and media can gather. The primary objective is to foster sustainable development in Okayama by pooling knowledge and resources. During this meeting, the committee discussed several pressing issues faced by the community, including demographic challenges that local governments and organizations must tackle.
The committee reviewed reports stemming from workshops held on July 22 and August 21, focusing specifically on demographic issues in Okayama Prefecture. These workshops revealed a collection of strategies and policies being explored by participating organizations to address declining population numbers. Furthermore, the results of surveys conducted during the workshops were shared, leading to engaging discussions on future approaches the committee could adopt for battling the population decline crisis. It was decided that input would be gathered from these organizations and presented at the Okayama Round Table Conference.
The Okayama SDGs Research Committee presented a proposal aimed at promoting local charm by establishing opportunities to showcase regional attractions. The Committee unanimously approved the initiative to create the “Okayama Future Co-Creation Board Game,” a unique tool intended to support the vision of making Okayama a sought-after destination.
Highlighting the committee's collaborative efforts, a report was made regarding a recent exchange meeting dated October 10, 2025. Three guests from Sweden, alongside one participating online, joined stakeholders from local government and the economic sector in a dialogue focused on shared regional challenges such as population decline and innovation. More than 30 participants engaged, demonstrating a robust exchange of ideas and insights vital for local progress.
