Dai-Sei Logistics Aims for 'Preferred Company' Status with Increased Holidays

Dai-Sei Logistics Embraces Change for a Better Workplace

Dai-Sei Logistics, a key player in the Dai-Sei Group, is set to enhance its holiday policy starting from 2025. The company aims to secure over 120 annual holidays for its warehouse and operational staff, aligning with the demands of a healthier work-life balance. This initiative responds to employee feedback and recruitment trends which suggest that potential candidates prioritize companies that offer sufficient holidays.

Overview of the New Holiday Policy

The company's logistics center has traditionally operated under a shift system, which originally mandated that the last Saturday of each month be a working day, aiming to provide a stable schedule. However, an internal survey conducted in 2024 revealed a significant number of employees expressing dissatisfaction regarding the limited number of holidays. Many candidates in recruitment discussions were withdrawing applications because of the perceived inadequacy of holiday offerings.

Recognizing these challenges, the management team decided it was necessary to reassess their approach to holiday allocations, leading to substantial revisions in their policy. Beginning July 2025, the last Saturday work requirement will be abolished, allowing employees to enjoy the same number of holidays as weekends and national holidays. This shift means employees will have a holiday allowance reflective of the calendar, with fluctuations dictated by holiday placements throughout the year. Despite these variations, the revamped policy guarantees an annual minimum of 120 holidays.

The annual holiday count will now comprise weekends, national holidays, a five-day break during the new year, and a three-day vacation for Obon. Here is a glimpse of the projected holiday counts:
  • - 2024: 113 days (prior to policy change)
  • - 2025: 120 days (during transition)
  • - 2026: 126 days (post-change)

Addressing Concerns and Future Outlook

“I faced a lot of concern from the staff about balancing employee shortages with increased workloads,” said Mr. Murakami, the HR manager. “However, we all recognized that establishing a more supportive work environment would ultimately improve our recruitment and retention rates.” Since implementing the new holiday system, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Employees are expressing enthusiasm about the additional days off, and many have noted that it has prompted them to rethink operational efficiencies.

While some sites still struggle with staff shortages, the culture of prioritizing efficiency and adequate rest is gradually taking root. The company acknowledges there are still challenges to address but remains committed to hearing employee feedback as they strive to balance workplace satisfaction with productivity.
