Space Shift Renames Its Satellite Data Program to SateBiz to Reflect Business Focus

Space Shift Ignores the Limits: Introduces SateBiz to Co-Create Satellite Data Solutions

Space Shift, Inc., based in Tokyo, Japan, has recently declared a major update to its satellite data co-creation program, originally known as SateLab. Set to be effective from July 1, 2025, the program will now be called SateBiz. This change marks the first anniversary of the initiative and responds to the growing demand for innovative business solutions leveraging satellite data along with terrestrial information.

Unveiling SateBiz

The newly named SateBiz aims to elevate the potential of the satellite data business as it continues to gain momentum globally. In light of the challenges that come with the deployment of satellite data, Space Shift acknowledges that unlocking its true potential requires an integration of satellite data with terrestrial information. Thus, in May 2024, they launched a new framework to foster collaborations between satellite data and non-space industries. This approach has enabled various businesses from multiple sectors to generate innovative solutions applying both terrestrial data and satellite insights together.

The company has established partnerships with approximately 50 firms over the past year, receiving interest not only from domestic companies but also from international enterprises. Using satellite data for applications in disaster response, agriculture, and urban development has been on the rise as a result of these collaborations.

The Transition from SateLab to SateBiz

Formerly labeled SateLab, the name change to SateBiz signifies a renewed commitment to combine satellite data and business opportunities more intentionally. The phrase “Answers to Earth’s Questions via Satellites” encapsulates the essence of this initiative. Space Shift emphasizes that the evolution from SateLab to SateBiz is about transitioning from mere experimental approaches to sustainable business models that actively engage in real-world applications.

Leadership Insights

Narayuki Kanamoto, CEO of Space Shift, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the growth of the SateLab initiative into a program that has attracted a diverse array of participants. He acknowledges the growing interest in utilizing satellite data and believes this transformation into SateBiz will create a more substantial connection between innovative ideas and actual business outcomes. Kanamoto aims to push beyond industrial boundaries to allow satellite data to become a transformative element in shaping industries and societies.

Future Plans

As the SateBiz initiative progresses, the team plans to accelerate collaborations with partner companies and develop novel global value propositions through the use of satellite data. In the autumn of this year, Space Shift intends to hold an event to showcase use cases developed with its partner companies, allowing a wider audience to engage with their advancements in the field of satellite data.

SateBiz Statement

“Our approach to solving Earth’s challenges lies in the unique perspective that space offers,” states the SateBiz manifesto. By reevaluating difficult issues from different angles, breakthroughs can emerge, while combining satellite data with terrestrial information can yield unprecedented answers that drive business innovation.

SateBiz aspires to create a society where space utilization becomes accessible for everyone, collaborating with partners to build a sustainable and progressive future powered by satellite insights.
