The Vibrant 'Made-in-Shanghai' Event Brings Shanghai's Fashion Scene to Osaka

The 'Made-in-Shanghai' Event Unveils Shanghai's Fashion Ecosystem in Osaka

From May 21 to May 25, 2025, Osaka played host to the exciting 'Made-in-Shanghai' event, marking the first overseas edition of this renowned showcase. This gathering isn’t just about fashion; it serves as a vibrant international platform presenting the essence of Shanghai's dynamic fashion industry, illustrated through over 1000 exhibits from 90 top Shanghai-based brands.

The event was designed under the theme 'Lifestyle Trends of Shanghai-Osaka,' attracting a diverse audience. Attendees were treated to a variety of exhibits, including fashion and accessories, cosmetics, gourmet snacks, sportswear, tech gadgets, and unique handicrafts. The Grand Green venue was transformed into a colorful panorama of Shanghai's offering, welcoming both consumers and business representatives alike.

The atmosphere was electric during the opening ceremony, graced by notable figures including Mr. FANG Wei, China's deputy consul general in Osaka. Hundreds gathered, including fashion industry officials, brand representatives, designers, media personnel, and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), creating a buzz that drew tens of thousands of visitors over the five days.

Among the most engaging segments of the event was the 'Shanghai Lab', which highlighted the fashion and beauty industry of Shanghai. This area garnered particular interest from business attendees, fostering conversations and potential collaborations. Notably, Yuyuan Road brought 23 brands from its creative community, featuring the theme of 'City-Block Renewal', which resonated well with the Japanese fashion professionals eager to learn about Shanghai’s innovation.

Additionally, Oriental Beauty Valley showcased a comprehensive presentation of its nine-brand matrix, illustrating the strength and creativity within Shanghai's beauty industry. The collaborative efforts between the organizers—Oriental Beauty Valley and Shanghai Comprehensive Industrial Development Zone—and Japanese businesses are set to deepen bilateral cooperation, paving the way for future exchanges.

At Hankyu Department Store, the 'WINDow of EAST' pop-up stores presented by Chinese designers added to the allure of the event. This section attracted a myriad of attendees, including officials, luxury buyers, celebrities, and even more consumers, amplifying the exposure of Shanghai’s vibrant fashion scene in Osaka.

Furthermore, the event wasn't limited to physical interactions. The Japanese company Confis provided an innovative e-commerce solution for participating brands, offering localization options like packing design, warehousing, and strategic channel marketing, thus broadening their reach in Japan. This two-pronged service model supports companies interested in international growth and investment opportunities in Shanghai, which includes creative consulting and overseas promotion.

Curated by Shanghai Design Week, this edition saw the participation of over 20 brand managers aiming to scout for promising business opportunities and gather consumer feedback, further enhancing synergy between the markets.

The impact of 'Made-in-Shanghai' extends far beyond those five initial days, as it aims to connect with a global audience. It is estimated that the event has reached about 400 million people worldwide, with coverage by numerous media outlets such as AP News, NBC News, and Asahi Shimbun drawing significant attention. As a testament to its success, the organizers reported a remarkable 3.76 million click-throughs on related articles.

As 'Made-in-Shanghai' continues to make ripples across the globe, it not only promotes Shanghai's fashion legacy but also sets the stage for meaningful cultural exchanges between China and Japan. This exciting showcase highlights the convergence of creativity, innovation, and international collaboration, cementing Osaka’s place as a key player in the global fashion discourse.
