Gathering of Voices: The 28th International Embassy Speech Contest in Japan

The highly anticipated 28th International Embassy Speech Contest will take place on November 15, 2025, at the Akasaka Community Center in Minato Ward, Tokyo. This unique event, co-hosted by the Embassy Officials Friendship Exchange Association and the Kissport Foundation, offers a platform for diplomats to share their insights on cultural differences and similarities with Japan, all conducted in Japanese.

The event will commence at 1:00 PM with an expected participation of around ten diplomats, each delivering speeches based on their personal experiences with cultural exchanges. Since its inception in 1998, this contest has sought to foster understanding of Japanese culture among embassy officials through the medium of the Japanese language, promoting international friendship and community engagement.

Over the years, more than 400 diplomats have participated, bringing their rich cultural backgrounds to the forefront while sharing stories that reflect both differences and commonalities. The speeches are subject to evaluation by a panel consisting of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and members recognized for their efforts in international advancement.

Awards such as the Minister for Foreign Affairs Award, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award, and corporate sponsor awards will be presented to participants who deliver outstanding performances.

Aoba BBT, under the leadership of its President Iwao Shibata, has taken a prominent role in organizing this contest since 2018, leveraging their experience in cross-cultural education and enhancing understanding of cultural diversity.
