Transforming the Future of Automotive Manufacturing
ForwardX Robotics, a global leader in Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), has made a significant stride in automotive manufacturing by deploying 435 AMRs at Chery Automobile’s Dalian factory, one of China’s largest electric vehicle (EV) production plants. This initiative represents the most comprehensive implementation of just-in-time AMRs in the automotive sector, marking a pivotal shift towards intelligent manufacturing for Chery.
In response to the growing demands from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for cost reduction, enhanced production speed, and increased flexibility, ForwardX has introduced a scalable automation solution tailored for complex automotive production environments. The deployment includes multiple series of AMRs, each designed to cater to specific aspects of the manufacturing process.
Improving Production Efficiency
Among the fleet of 435 AMRs, the
Flex series consists of 195 robots aimed at optimizing material delivery in welding and assembly zones. These enhancements have resulted in a
40% increase in material handling speeds and a
30% reduction in labor costs during initial implementation, operationalizing up to
80% of key workshops. This series allows for accelerated material flow even in constrained spaces, overcoming traditional logistical hurdles in large factories.
The
Max series includes 226 units (Max1500L and Max2500O), designed for high-capacity tasks. The Max1500L can handle loads of up to 2,596 kg, while the Max2500O is specifically built for heavy transport, capable of managing payloads of 2.5 tons. Both series ensure efficient 24/7 automated operation, guaranteeing continual workflow to meet the production need of one car every
100 seconds.
Intelligent Transportation Solutions
Furthermore, ForwardX’s
Lynx series focuses on intelligent trailer automation, integrating seamlessly with Chery’s Production System (SPS). These AMRs are optimized for high-diversity environments and small spaces, addressing specific challenges that arise in automotive manufacturing.
By minimizing manual intervention, ForwardX Robotics aids Chery in improving delivery accuracy and enhancing workflow reliability. With this revolutionary deployment, Chery aims to meet the demands of a fast-paced automotive market, addressing OEM challenges in speed, flexibility, and cost optimization.
A Long-term Collaboration
The collaboration between ForwardX and Chery illustrates how scalable automation solutions evolve alongside the growing needs of automobile manufacturers. As Nicolas Chee, CEO of ForwardX, stated, "Our continuous partnership with Chery shows how adaptable automation can grow with the increasing production demands of OEMs. From over 100 AMRs at Chery’s Super One plant in 2023 to the current deployment in Dalian, our solutions have consistently been tailored to meet Chery’s expanding operational necessities."
This partnership not only highlights the importance of embracing new technology but also emphasizes a commitment to sustainability and innovation. With reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), enhanced safety, and readiness for Industry 4.0, ForwardX is proud to support Chery's mission of driving efficiency across its manufacturing operations.
