Hitachi's New AI Ambassadors to Propel Innovation
In light of the rapid advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the evolving needs and trends within the industry, Hitachi Ltd. has taken a significant step by appointing 21 new members to its AI Ambassadors program starting in January 2025. This expansion includes a mix of seasoned Chief Technology Officers from international subsidiaries and promising young engineers. These ambassadors are expected to lead business transformation initiatives, tackle complex challenges, and promote the value and possibilities of AI through their individual experiences.
The transition from 'GenAI Ambassadors' to 'AI Ambassadors' reflects Hitachi's recognition of the fast-paced evolution of AI technologies, which is advancing from generative AI to AI agents, and eventually to physical AI applications. With over 1,000 use cases showcasing the potential of generative AI, Hitachi has also established a strong track record in developing and applying AI agents. One notable example is the HMAX digital asset management platform, which integrates mission-critical assets with advanced digital technologies such as AI to realize impactful business transformation.
The diverse group of newly appointed ambassadors includes engineers focused on AI applications in operational technology, consultants who support the advanced usage of such technologies, and professionals involved in practical sales efforts, both domestically and internationally. This expansion brings the total number of AI ambassadors to 37, who will serve as bridges between Hitachi and its clients and partners, leading the charge in AI development and implementation while spreading awareness of AI’s benefits.
Achievements and Future Activities
Since launching the GenAI ambassador initiative in January 2025, the initial 16 members have actively represented AI transformation practices. Their efforts to share information have included participating in events and webinars, as well as conducting workshops to communicate the value and potential of AI. As part of this initiative, they have engaged in various activities, such as:
- - Webinars: Collaborating with IT Media, the team conducted a successful webinar addressing the challenges of AI adoption in companies, drawing 1,045 participants.
- - Events: The ambassadors took part in Microsoft’s flagship event, the Microsoft AI Tour Tokyo, showcasing solutions at an informative booth.
- - Videos: They launched videos on Hitachi's official YouTube channel, demonstrating how the company is addressing common challenges in AI adoption across IT and operational technology sectors, each garnering significant views surpassing 240,000.
- - Workshops: A series of workshops aimed at maximizing generative AI’s utility were executed, with the Hitachi Hokkaido branch achieving a notable 100% utilization rate of generative AI in operations, with the process documented and shared publicly.
With an enhanced team, the ambassadors are set to further convey the value and potential of AI transformation. As a primary engagement, they will be featured at Google Cloud Next Tokyo in early August, where they will provide demonstrations and showcase solutions and use cases.
Future Vision and Goals
Yoshida Jun, the Chief AI Transformation Officer of Hitachi, has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response received from both inside and outside the company since the ambassador activities began. He emphasizes the importance of sharing Hitachi Group’s challenges and solutions concerning AI transformation, aiming to foster a more lively communication dynamic through the expanded membership. With the rapidly evolving technological landscape, transitioning from generative AI to AI agents and physical AI, Hitachi seeks to leverage domain knowledge combined with AI to convert data into actionable insights that address societal challenges, evolving the company’s strategy towards Lumada 3.0.
As they pursue their activities as 'One Hitachi,' the AI ambassadors are committed to enhancing the provision of AI-driven solutions while addressing issues related to workforce shortages and knowledge transfer. Their ultimate goal is to contribute to the realization of a harmonious society where environmental sustainability, human welfare, and economic growth coexist.
