Ecopetrol Announces Key Leadership Changes

Ecopetrol S.A., Colombia's largest company and a major player in the energy industry across the Americas, recently unveiled significant shifts in its senior management. These changes reflect the organization's strategic vision aimed at enhancing its capacity in innovation and energy transition.

In a board session held on July 25, 2025, two pivotal appointments were made. Sergio Andrés Moreno Acevedo has been appointed as the new Corporate Vice President of Science, Technology, and Innovation, effective July 28, 2025. Previously serving in this role on an interim basis since January, Moreno brings extensive expertise with a background in systems engineering and a specialization in technology management from the Universidad Industrial de Santander. His valuable experience spans over two decades in technology leadership positions. He joined Ecopetrol in 2023 as the Manager of Innovation, where he played a crucial role in the company's ST+I portfolio. His predecessor, Luis Felipe Rivera, will take on new high-impact roles within the Ecopetrol Group.

Meanwhile, also receiving a new title is Bayron Triana Arias, who becomes the Executive Vice President of Energy for the Transition as of August 1, 2025. Having served as acting vice president since May 2025, Triana Arias is an accomplished industrial engineer with a Master’s degree in Management from the National University of Colombia. He has participated in numerous energy initiatives focusing on public policy and strategic projects within the sector for nearly two decades. His previous position was as the Manager of Energy Strategy for the Transition, an area vital to Ecopetrol's long-term strategic objectives.

Ecopetrol plays an essential role in Colombia’s economy, responsible for over 60% of the country's hydrocarbon production. The company operates over 19,000 employees and maintains crucial positions in logistics, refining systems, petrochemicals, and gas distribution. Additionally, with a significant stake in ISA, Ecopetrol extends its operations in energy transmission, real-time system management, and even infrastructure projects like the Barranquilla - Cartagena coastal highway.

The appointments of Moreno and Triana Arias denote a broader commitment by Ecopetrol to prioritize innovation and a sustainable energy future. This is a critical aspect as the company leads its initiatives towards cleaner energy development, aligning with both local and global energy transition trends. Their vast experiences and strategic insights promise to drive Ecopetrol towards achieving its ambitious goals, particularly for its 2040 strategy, which focuses on consolidating its position as a leader in sustainable energy.

As Ecopetrol continues evolving, these leadership changes will play an instrumental role in navigating the complexities of the modern energy landscape, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of technological advancements and environmental sustainability initiatives.
