Seven-Eleven Japan Introduces New Premium Ice Creams for Rewarding Moments

Seven-Eleven Japan's Exciting New Ice Cream Lineup

In light of changing market dynamics, Seven-Eleven Japan has announced the release of a new range of premium ice creams, marking a strategic initiative to enhance Japan's ice cream market. On May 9, celebrated as "Ice Cream Day", the company will unveil these innovative products nationwide, starting from April 28, 2026.

The announcement came during a special PR event aimed at media representatives, where the product development team outlined the strategies behind the new offerings. Among the highlights is the new flavor, "Seven Premium Waffle Cone Matcha Milk," along with two other matcha-flavored ice creams: "Takumi Tea Monaka" and "Nana's Green Tea Matcha Parfait." A total of ten companies, including Akagi Nyugyo, Imuraya, and Häagen-Dazs Japan, gathered to express their commitment to revitalizing the ice cream market in Japan.

Collaborating for Growth

Takahiro Kataoka, the manager of the grocery product development department at Seven-Eleven, emphasized the importance of collaboration among the partner companies in launching these new products. He stressed that the ice cream market has undergone significant changes, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. As consumers seek moments of indulgence, the varieties of ice cream purchases are becoming increasingly diversified.

“Over the past few years, the emphasis on personal 'me-time' has elevated the perception of ice cream as a rewarding treat,” Kataoka explained. He mentioned how the company aims to focus on two key aspects in product development: innovation and the enjoyment associated with ice cream consumption. A particular emphasis will be placed on nighttime sales, with a goal to increase these offerings by 123 percent.

Premium Matcha Ice Creams

The new releases feature high-quality matcha flavors that align with current consumer desires for premium products. According to Eri Taketani, ice cream merchandiser at Seven-Eleven, the "Seven Premium Waffle Cone Matcha Milk" draws inspiration from the popular matcha latte, aiming to deliver a delicious, creamy experience reminiscent of that beloved drink.

"Takumi Tea Monaka" incorporates fine matcha ice cream enveloped in a crispy wafer, coated in chocolate, offering both a delightful crunch and the sweetness of red bean paste. The "Nana's Green Tea Matcha Parfait" uses a special blend of matcha and includes various ingredients such as mochi and cookie crunch, promising a rich blend of textures and tastes that create a satisfying dessert experience.

Trends in the Ice Cream Market

Guest speaker and renowned ice cream expert, Aisuman Fukudome, highlighted key trends currently shaping the ice cream market. He pointed out that ice cream is transitioning from merely being a children’s snack to becoming a premium indulgence for adults. The industry is witnessing a shift towards experiences that enhance taste and texture, along with the reinterpretation of existing favorite flavors.

Fukudome elaborated on the premium quality of Seven-Eleven's ice creams, which utilize carefully selected ingredients and innovative textures that appeal to discerning consumers. He noted that the new products he sampled exhibited a perfect balance of flavors and textures, creating an enjoyable eating experience.

Conclusion

As Japan prepares for its upcoming Ice Cream Day, Seven-Eleven's initiative to launch premium products in collaboration with leading dairy brands signals a refreshing change in the marketplace. By focusing on consumer trends and collaboration, seven-Eleven is set to delight its customers with high-quality, satisfying ice cream that speaks to today’s demands for quality and indulgence.
