FirstEnergy Foundation Allocates Over $2 Million for Community Support in 2025 First Half

In a heartwarming stride towards enhancing community welfare, FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) announced that its foundation made significant contributions exceeding $2 million in grants during the first two quarters of 2025. This initiative aims to assist various nonprofit organizations that strive to fulfill the essential needs of the communities served by FirstEnergy’s electric companies.

The grants, amounting to nearly $1.1 million, have been carefully allocated to support a broad spectrum of community needs. These include crucial areas such as hunger relief, youth education, and disaster response. Furthermore, the enthusiastic efforts of the employees through the United Way Campaign generated an impressive $1 million, reflecting strong support from company leadership and the willingness of the workforce to give back to the community. In total, over 800 organizations received direct donations, while 104 United Way agencies benefitted from the company’s matching contributions.

Beyond its financial support, FirstEnergy Foundation actively encourages employees to engage directly with their communities. The foundation offers every employee 16 hours of paid volunteer time annually, a gesture that empowers them to contribute their time and skills to nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. So far in 2025, employees have already logged nearly 5,000 hours of volunteer service, positively impacting various communities across the company’s operational territory.

New Leadership and Future Aspirations

The FirstEnergy Foundation is currently seeking a new leader following the retirement of Lorna Wisham, who served as Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement as well as President of the foundation since September 2018. The upcoming leadership will play a pivotal role in collaborating with FirstEnergy’s management to set charitable priorities that align with both community upliftment and the company’s business strategies.

In the interim, Amanda Mertens Campbell, the Vice President of External Affairs, will head the foundation while the company continues its search for a permanent leader. The future leader is expected to bring innovative ideas that will enhance the foundation's impact in the communities FirstEnergy serves.
