Revitalizing Tradition: Ishikawa Prefectural Sake Event on June 3, 2025
In a heartwarming return to tradition, the Ishikawa Prefectural Sake Association is set to host its first sake tasting and business meeting in Tokyo since the devastating earthquake that shook the Noto Peninsula. Scheduled for June 3, 2025, this event will be held at the Tokyo Traffic Hall in the bustling Yurakucho district, and will showcase delicious sake produced by 16 local breweries.
The earthquake, which struck in early 2024, caused significant damage to several breweries, particularly those located in the northern part of Noto. Many of these establishments are still unable to brew sake on their own premises, with entire facilities demolished. As we reflect on a year and a half since the disaster, it's evident that recovery efforts are still a work in progress. In response, the Ishikawa Prefectural Sake Association has been actively involved in various initiatives, including the rescue of leftover sake mash, collaborative brewing efforts, and the release of the 'Tsunagu Ishikawa Sake' series, all aimed at supporting the affected breweries.
At this tasting event, attendees can look forward to sampling an array of premium sake from Ishikawa's 16 participating breweries. Notably, the event will shine a spotlight on unique collaboration brews created through collective efforts between the Noto breweries and those from the Kaga and Kanazawa regions. In addition, a panel exhibition will feature information on the circumstances faced by the affected breweries during the earthquake, providing a deeper understanding of their journey towards recovery.
The event is tailored for industry professionals, including wholesalers, distributors, restaurant operators, and media representatives, to express gratitude for their past support while also urging their continued involvement in the restoration and growth of Ishikawa's sake industry.
Special emphasis will be placed on the heartfelt message of unity embodied in the 'Tsuna-gu Ishikawa Sake', which features a representation of Ishikawa’s shape made from interlocking origami pieces. This reflects not only the strong connections between the breweries but also the collective spirit of the community aiming for recovery. Notably, for every bottle sold from this series, ¥200 will be donated to Ishikawa Prefecture and the affected brewers as support funds.
