Transforming Automotive Manufacturing: ForwardX Robotics and Chery
In a groundbreaking move, ForwardX Robotics has successfully integrated
435 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at Chery Automobile's Dalian facility, known as one of China's largest electric vehicle production sites. This project represents the most significant Just-in-Time (JIT) automation installation within the automotive sector, as it enhances Chery’s journey towards becoming a key player in intelligent manufacturing.
Meeting Pressures in the Automotive Industry
Automakers today are under immense pressure to lower costs while simultaneously increasing speed and flexibility in their production processes. ForwardX offers tailored, scalable automation solutions designed to meet the complex demands of the automotive manufacturing landscape.
Addressing Complex Production Needs
1.
Flex Series: With 195 Flex AMRs deployed, these robots have streamlined material delivery within welding and assembly areas, resulting in a 40% increase in material handling speed while cutting labor costs by 30% during the initial rollout phase. Over 80% of the critical workshops are now integrated with these robots.
2.
Max Series: This series includes 226 high-performance AMRs, specifically designed for large payloads, such as the Max1500L which supports 5,500 lbs (2,750 kg) and is capable of transporting substantial frames. The Max2500O is engineered to handle up to 2.5 tons, ensuring effective heavy-duty transportation with omnidirectional navigation that enhances maneuverability amidst tight spaces.
3.
Lynx Series: Focused on intelligent tugging automation, the Lynx models have been meticulously optimized to operate within Chery’s Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system. This integration promotes efficiency in environments characterized by high variability and constrained space.
Emphasizing Smart Manufacturing
ForwardX Robotics plays a significant role in key processes such as welding, stamping, and final assembly. These AMRs help streamline operations by reducing manual interventions, improving delivery accuracy, while bolstering workflow reliability. Notably, Chery has achieved a production milestone of rolling out a new car every
100 seconds. Such efficiency showcases the critical scalability and operational flexibility ForwardX provides, essential for thriving within rapid-paced JIT production environments.
A Long-Lasting Partnership
“
Our ongoing collaboration with Chery illustrates how scalable automation solutions can evolve alongside the increasing demands of automotive manufacturers,” stated
Nicolas Chee, CEO of ForwardX. Starting with just over 100 AMRs at Chery's Super One factory in 2023, the count has now expanded to 435 AMRs in Dalian, highlighting the ability of ForwardX's solutions to adapt to Chery's growing production requirements.
This partnership not only aims at lowering total operational costs, enhancing safety measures, and readiness for
Industry 4.0 but also reinforces ForwardX's commitment to fostering long-term relationships with automotive manufacturers.
