icotec Secures CMS Approval for New Technology Add-On Payment
ALTSTÄTTEN, Switzerland & BOSTON, October 7, 2026 - icotec, a global leader in radiolucent implants for patients with spinal tumors and complex spinal surgeries, has exciting news. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted approval for an additional reimbursement under the New Technology Add-On Payment (NTAP) for icotec's CMORE® CT System, effective October 1, 2026.
This approval marks a significant milestone for icotec and its CMORE® CT System, which is designed for posterior stabilization of the cervicothoracic spine. The NTAP program permits eligible hospitals to receive reimbursement for utilizing this innovative product when treating Medicare patients. This added compensation is applicable for certain spinal conditions and surgical procedures where the CMORE® system is utilized.
"We are thrilled that the CMS has recognized our new CMORE® CT System under the NTAP program, especially after it received groundbreaking device designation back in April 2025," said Christoph Eigenmann, CEO of icotec, USA. "With this new approval, physicians will now have access to an authorized solution that allows them to deploy the CMORE® CT System for their patients, enhancing visual assessment during surgery through X-ray, CT, and MRI imaging. Our product leverages the radiolucent properties of our BlackArmor® Carbon/PEEK, facilitating advanced postoperative therapies."
The innovative CMORE® CT Implant System integrates proprietary process technologies with advanced material science to offer reliable solutions for spine surgeons and their patients worldwide. icotec's dedication to evolving the spinal implant sector involves collaboration with clinicians through a multidisciplinary therapy approach.
The CMORE® CT System is constructed with icotec's proprietary BlackArmor® technology, ensuring it is metal-free and radiolucent. This system includes polyaxial screws (pedicle and lateral mass screws) and straight or pre-curved rods that adapt perfectly to the patient's anatomy. Being FDA-approved for treating spinal infections, it positions itself as the only system approved for posterior stabilization of the cervicothoracic spine in such cases.
