ROLLER and Slick City Reveal Their Franchise Growth Playbook
In a recent live webinar, ROLLER, a comprehensive venue management platform tailored for the attractions industry, and Slick City Action Park took center stage to share insights on successful franchising strategies. Titled "Scaling Success: How Slick City is Franchising the Future of Family Entertainment," this session featured a robust dialogue between Bron Launsby, the CEO and Founder of Slick City, and Luke Finn, CEO and Co-Founder of ROLLER.
Over a remarkably short time frame, Slick City has emerged as a pioneer in the active family entertainment sector, awarding 41 franchise territories and launching 12 locations within just 12 months. The brand has also secured over one million square feet of operational space, positioning it as the fastest-growing name in family entertainment for 2024. However, this rapid expansion didn’t happen by chance—it is underscored by a thoughtfully crafted strategy.
"We recognized that franchising would essentially be integrated into our DNA from the very beginning," explained Launsby. "The most prudent decision was to fine-tune our operational model before branching out and aggressively pursuing new franchise opportunities."
Slick City's ambitious framework was developed to accommodate scalability. The company meticulously tested various real estate formats, reorganized layouts, and established operational systems through a well-structured twelve-part system of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), comprehensive training resources, and cohesive functional units. This foundational playbook is now instrumental in facilitating a nationwide rollout while ensuring consistent performance across its parks.
"In the early stages, establishing processes may seem burdensome," remarked Finn. "Yet, as one grows, the absence of proper procedures only exacerbates challenges."
Equally critical to Slick City’s growth is technology. Launsby acknowledged that ROLLER's multi-venue management tools have been essential in driving their expansion. "We would face failure without the technology at our disposal," he stated. "ROLLER provides us with invaluable data insights, allowing us to make quick, effective decisions that positively impact our business. The feedback we receive is instantaneous, enabling us to pivot as necessary."
At the heart of Slick City's remarkable growth is a strong, values-oriented culture. This culture is cultivated through experienced and trustworthy leadership. "While we cannot dictate the culture of our franchisees, we strive to furnish them with a clear template that reflects our values," Launsby added.
As Slick City gears up to double its footprint by year-end, Launsby's bold five-year vision includes expanding to 200 locations and establishing a global brand. The growth of Slick City serves as a compelling case study for operators navigating the complexities of franchising and multi-venue expansions. Through this webinar, ROLLER reinforces its commitment to sharing valuable insights and strategies within the attractions community, assisting operators of various scales to implement effective growth methodologies in their own pursuits.
