SmallRig and FamilyLens Launch New Family Filmmaking Initiative at International Film Festival

SmallRig and FamilyLens Unveil Global Family Filmmaking Initiative

On December 6th, 2025, the curtains rose on the 3rd FamilyLens International Film Festival in Beijing, marking an exciting chapter for family filmmaking. SmallRig, a leader in imaging solutions, has joined forces with FamilyLens to launch a transformative initiative aimed at empowering families to create their own film narratives. This groundbreaking effort includes the Family Filmmaking Co-Creation Initiative, a specially curated equipment kit, and a social impact screening program.

The Co-Creation Initiatives

SmallRig's Co-Creation Initiatives are designed to inspire filmmakers and content creators from across the globe to collaborate on diverse projects. By promoting product co-creation, discovery, and content collaboration, SmallRig is setting the stage for family-focused filmmakers to enhance their storytelling capabilities. The initiative encourages families everywhere to leverage the increasing accessibility of filmmaking tools to share their unique stories.

Zhou Yang, SmallRig's Founder and CEO, expressed the core inspiration driving this initiative — the universal importance of family narratives. He believes that the emotional connection stemming from these stories is a powerful bond uniting audiences globally. “We are in an era where everyone can be a content creator. Every family has a story to share, and these stories deserve to be told,” Zhou said, emphasizing that creativity resides within every household.

Gu Xue, Founder and Director of the FamilyLens International Film Festival, echoed this sentiment, stating their hope that the initiative will provide solutions and insights for family filmmakers worldwide. “We are excited to explore the realm of 'Home' through this initiative,” Gu noted, emphasizing the importance of accessible filmmaking for families.

Introducing the Family Filmmaking Kit

At the festival's opening ceremony, SmallRig unveiled the Family Filmmaking Kit, designed specifically to simplify the filmmaking process for families. The kit includes essential tools such as a high-quality microphone, a fill light, and a portable tripod. These tools have been engineered to make professional filmmaking attainable for everyone, even those without advanced photography expertise. During the festival's workshops, attendees had the chance to test the kit's features and quickly recognized its value in addressing the typical challenges faced by family filmmakers. Participants expressed enthusiasm over how the kit empowers them to create professional-quality content.

Social Impact Screening Program

The FamilyLens International Film Festival, running from December 6th to 14th, showcased its commitment to family storytelling with the debut of several relevant films, including the acclaimed documentary K-Family Affairs. This year's festival also featured unique segments such as an Italian retrospective on home movies, youth-focused films, and the Social Impact Program. The Social Impact Screening Program, in collaboration with the SmallRig Image Development Fund, aims to shed light on significant issues families face, from the plight of left-behind children to the mental health struggles of Alzheimer's patients.

Director Arum Nam of K-Family Affairs noted that familial narratives are crucial in shaping understanding and empathy within society. “By focusing on family stories, we can connect deeply with larger societal issues,” Nam stated, underscoring the initiative's profound purpose.

The Future of Family Filmmaking

SmallRig is committed to the ongoing development of the Family Filmmaking Co-Creation Initiative, which includes promotional campaigns and hands-on workshops centered around creating compelling family narratives.
