ForwardX Robotics Implements 435 Autonomous Mobile Robots at Chery Automobile's Dalian Factory

Revolutionizing In-House Logistics at Chery Automobile

In a significant move that marks a leap forward in automotive manufacturing automation, ForwardX Robotics has deployed 435 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) at Chery Automobile's Dalian factory. This deployment is one of the largest in the industry, aimed at addressing the increasing demand for speed and precision in the logistics of auto components, ranging from delicate electronics to heavy assembly parts.

Meeting the Challenges of Tier 1 Suppliers

Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive sector are experiencing unprecedented pressure to manage quicker and more accurate deliveries of parts. As the manufacturing process becomes increasingly complex, there is a need for advanced intralogistics solutions that can handle a wide array of components in real-time across various production workshops.

ForwardX is stepping up to this challenge with a fleet of specialized AMRs, each designed to tackle specific tasks within the manufacturing environment. The deployment includes:

  • - Flex Series AMRs: These agile units excel in transporting small, fragile components like circuit boards and wiring assemblies, ensuring timely delivery while optimally utilizing space.
  • - Max Series AMRs: Built for heavy-duty tasks, these robots handle the movement of hefty objects such as engines and machinery parts, synchronizing flawlessly with production lines to prevent delays.
  • - Lynx U1000 Towing AMRs: Designed for moving large racks and bulky materials, these AMRs are fully integrated with Chery's SPS system for autonomous deliveries to essential production areas.

Nicolas Chee, CEO of ForwardX Robotics, highlighted the significance of this deployment, stating, “This effort underscores our commitment to solving real-world production challenges on a significant scale. Chery Automobile has tasked us with streamlining material flow in one of its most intricate facilities, and with 435 AMRs operating cohesively, we are pioneering a new era of intelligent intralogistics.”

Enhanced Automation and Efficiency

The implementation of these robots results in a synchronized flow of materials between stamping, welding, battery, and final assembly workshops, minimizing operational disruptions and maximizing uptime. Chery's factory has now achieved the capacity to roll out a vehicle every two minutes, facilitated by an autonomous logistics system that adapts dynamically to the manufacturing environment.

Proven Success Across the Automotive Supply Chain

ForwardX's technology has gained traction with leading automotive manufacturers across Asia, showcasing its versatility in various workflows and industrial settings. For instance, at Inalfa, the Max-1500L AMRs efficiently navigate tight spaces in roofing system workshops, transporting heavy loads with precision. Similarly, for BYD, customized forklift AMRs equipped with 2.4-meter forks automate material movement in high-demand electric vehicle battery plants, safely navigating hazardous areas. At Dongfeng Auto, the Lynx U1000 AMRs manage door transportation within high-speed welding workshops, keeping pace with rapid production lines.

These projects exemplify ForwardX's expertise in addressing both general and highly specialized intralogistics challenges—whether it’s managing large shelving movements or handling delicate components—all facilitated by flexible, scalable robots that seamlessly integrate into existing operations.
