Electrolux Group Empowers Children with Sustainable Eating Education Initiatives

Electrolux Group Empowers Kids as 'Food Heroes'

On April 22, 2025, the Electrolux Group honored Earth Day by welcoming around 120 fifth graders from Mallard Creek STEM Academy to its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The occasion celebrated the company's ongoing commitment to teaching sustainability through their 'Food Heroes' initiative—an educational program aimed at children ages 7 to 11. This event marked the third collaboration between Electrolux and the academy, following successful gatherings held last year in June and September.

The Food Heroes program focuses on the impact food choices have on both personal health and environmental sustainability. During the event, students were engaged in interactive lessons emphasizing the journey of food, from its source to the grocery store, while learning how to read food labels and minimize waste.

Ricardo Cons, the president and CEO of Electrolux Group for North America, expressed the program's significance, stating, "Our goal is to inspire the next generation to make food choices that are not only healthy for them but also beneficial for the environment. It’s incredibly gratifying to witness the enthusiasm from these students as they learn in the classroom and practice in the kitchen. These experiences are crucial for instilling lifelong healthy habits and reducing food waste. It’s safe to say these students have truly earned their capes as food heroes!"

Since its launch in 2019, the Food Heroes initiative has reached over 200,000 children across more than 30 countries. After introducing the program in North America in 2024, Electrolux hosted four events, educating more than 160 local children within its first year.

April Booker, the founder and executive director of the ZEN program at Mallard Creek, elaborated on the impact of this educational effort: "Empowering kids with knowledge about where their food comes from and how to cultivate it encourages them to make informed food choices. By doing so, we are nurturing a future generation of advocates for healthy eating and environmental stewardship."

The importance of these lessons cannot be understated. Teaching kids about nutrition and sustainable practices equips them with the tools necessary to navigate their future food choices responsibly. The hands-on gardening elements integrated into the program provide real-life applications, making these lessons memorable and impactful.

To further support families and educators, the Electrolux Group Food Foundation has made its comprehensive Food Heroes Toolkit available free of charge. This resource is designed to help parents, teachers, and chefs foster discussions about the relationship between food consumption and ecological health.

In a world increasingly challenged by environmental issues, the role of corporate responsibility in education becomes paramount. Companies like Electrolux demonstrate that the business sector can significantly influence future generations' habits by championing educational initiatives focused on sustainability.

In conclusion, initiatives like Food Heroes are essential in the quest for sustainable living and healthier food choices. Through the enthusiasm of both students and educators, Electrolux is not only shaping the present but also paving the way for a more sustainable future. As these young 'Food Heroes' grow, they will carry forward the crucial lessons on sustainable eating and environmental stewardship, contributing positively to society at large.
