LAPU Cheers on Education Graduates Amid National Teacher Shortage Crisis
Los Angeles Pacific University (LAPU) is making headlines as it proudly celebrates the graduation of the Class of 2024-2025, stepping into critical education roles during a national teacher shortage. In recent federal surveys, a stark reality has emerged: the majority of public schools across the United States are struggling to find qualified educators for the upcoming school year. This situation underscores the urgent need for well-prepared education professionals, and LAPU is at the forefront of addressing this issue.
Over 400 students successfully graduated this academic year, with many juggling their educational pursuits alongside professional and family responsibilities. Notably, around 14% of these graduates earned degrees in education-related fields, positioning them to enter classrooms, leadership roles, and various student support capacities. This achievement reflects LAPU’s unwavering commitment to serving adult and nontraditional learners, which includes first-generation college students, parents, military personnel, and individuals navigating career changes.
Andrew Lindstrom, Student Success Manager, shared an inspiring story about a student in her sixties, initially apprehensive about pursuing a teaching career. Despite her fears, her passion for nurturing children's development led her to persevere through her studies, ultimately achieving her goals. Lindstrom expressed, "Watching our students grow into confident, capable educators is incredibly rewarding. Many juggle careers, family, and other responsibilities, yet remain committed to their calling and to making a difference in their communities."
This flexible, 100% online university offers an asynchronous learning environment, allowing students to integrate their studies with work, personal lives, and faith commitments. Adjunct Faculty member Shirley Esau emphasized the transformative journey many adult students undergo, stating, "What’s most rewarding is watching adult and nontraditional students recognize their own authority and worth as learners—often after years of being told they didn’t belong in academic spaces. Their life experiences become powerful assets in their education and in the classrooms they will lead."
In addition to rigorous academic instruction, LAPU provides its students with ongoing support through Student Success Coaches who offer personalized guidance and encouragement throughout their educational journeys, including advising, encouragement, and even prayer support for those who seek it. Lindstrom added, "Education students tend to be driven and diligent. There is a lot to manage when completing a teaching credential, and these students consistently rise to the challenge while remaining deeply passionate about their calling and committed to positively influencing the next generation."
Adjunct Faculty Elise George echoed these sentiments, referring to teaching as a ministry where educators embody the hands and feet of a higher calling as they influence future generations through their service.
As the education sector continues to actively search for qualified professionals, LAPU graduates enter the workforce equipped to serve with excellence, resilience, and a strong moral foundation. Looking ahead, LAPU plans to host the
AI in Action Conference 2026, which will gather educators, technologists, and industry experts to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and education.
This initiative further signals LAPU’s dedication to innovation in educational practices. The university stands as a nonprofit, Christian institution dedicated to delivering flexible, fully online education programs—allowing students to engage in their studies at their own pace. With an emphasis on academic quality intertwined with faith, LAPU prepares students to pursue their vocational interests and lead with confidence.
