Halifax Humane Society Launches 'Clear the Shelters' Campaign with Stunning Pet Photography

Halifax Humane Society Kicks Off 'Clear the Shelters' Campaign

The Halifax Humane Society is excited to announce the start of its 11th annual 'Clear the Shelters' campaign, in collaboration with NBCUniversal and Hill's Pet Nutrition, which aims to bring attention to pet adoption nationwide. Running throughout August 2025, this initiative will encourage the community to adopt pets from shelters, focusing on finding loving homes for animals in need.

On August 4 and 5, a special event named the 'Second Shot' photo shoot will be held at the shelter, featuring the talented pet photographer Adam Goldberg. Known for his striking and emotional portraits of shelter animals, Goldberg will photograph up to 60 long-stay dogs at the Halifax Humane Society, showcasing their personalities in a way that traditional photos cannot. His work not only captures their essence but has also inspired many adoptions over the years.

"Adam's photography allows these overlooked pets to shine and attract potential adopters," said Sean Hawkins, CEO of Halifax Humane Society. As the shelter aims to place at least 150 pets in loving homes this month, his involvement is seen as a cornerstone in achieving that goal.

The 'Clear the Shelters' campaign has been incredibly successful in its first ten years, helping nearly 1.2 million pets find homes and raising over $5 million for shelters and rescues across the country. The Halifax Humane Society is eager to contribute to these impressive stats, aiming to make a significant impact during this month-long event.

Special Offers for Adopters

In conjunction with the campaign, Halifax Humane Society is waiving adoption fees for Pit Bull-type dogs through its 'Dolly's Dream Program'. This initiative, designed to debunk common misconceptions about these breeds, includes a starter package for adopters valued at over $600. This package features essentials such as a training crate, a dog bed, food and water bowls, KONG toys, and a full year of heartworm prevention—everything a new dog owner needs to ensure a healthy and happy start for their new companion.

Among the loving pit bull-type dogs available for adoption are Flora, Eeyore, Scout, Bones, and Zena. Each of these dogs is eager to find a home where they can be cherished as part of a family.

To further enhance the adoption experience, all pets adopted during the event will receive exciting giveaways, including either a professional Pickleball set or a portable basketball game, compliments of the partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim. This highlights not just the focus on finding homes for pets but also on ensuring their new families have fun activities to enjoy together.

Every pet awaiting adoption has undergone thorough veterinary examinations and is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Additionally, thanks to Hill's Pet Nutrition, every adopted pet will go home with a complimentary sample bag of dog or cat food—ensuring a good start for each new furry family member.
