Turkey Emerges as a Hotspot for Electromobility in Europe

Turkey is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its transportation landscape, particularly in the field of electromobility. Since 2016, when only 44 electric vehicles (EVs) were newly registered, this number has exploded, projected to exceed 220,000 by mid-2025. This is an incredible growth of 137% based on a decade-long average, indicating a robust shift towards sustainable transportation.

Demographics of Turkish EV Drivers

Recent research conducted by the Austrian company go-e has revealed critical insights into the demographics and behaviors of electric vehicle drivers in Turkey. The majority of these drivers are under 40 years old, urban, well-educated, and are increasingly engaging in home charging solutions. Notably, 70% charge their vehicles regularly at public charging stations, while around 40% are opting for home charging options, which showcases a growing trend of convenience and accessibility.

However, there are concerns regarding charging practices. Approximately one-fourth of EVs still rely on basic 220-volt emergency charging cables, whereas 57% are using fixed wall boxes for charging. Interestingly, about 17% have adopted mobile wall boxes, which offer flexibility and safety akin to a fixed solution, indicating a trend toward more sophisticated charging solutions.

Choosing Charging Solutions

The choice of charging solutions appears to be influenced by specific criteria and quality requirements. The research identifies well-known wallbox brands in Turkey, including Vestel, a leading local electrical engineering group, Tesla, and go-e. When selecting a home charging solution, nearly one-third of respondents prioritize time-controlled charging as the most significant factor, closely followed by automatic load management to prevent power overloads, highlighting the audience's understanding of energy efficiency.

Additionally, 90% of go-e wallbox users recommend this brand to friends and family, illustrating its reputation for easy installation, user-friendly operation, and the option for photovoltaic (PV) plus charging. This makes go-e not only a popular choice in German-speaking countries but also a market leader in Turkey in terms of customer satisfaction.

go-e's Commitment and Influence

Founded in 2017, go-e has been producing award-winning charging devices for electric vehicles recognized by organizations such as ADAC, Stiftung Warentest, and Auto Bild. Their products are available in around 30 countries, serving an ever-growing network of partners, dealers, and specialized companies. As highlighted by the British market research firm LCP Delta, go-e leads the home charging sector in Germany.

The electromobility survey in Turkey was conducted in March 2025 by market research firm marketmind on behalf of go-e, involving a sample of 1,000 individuals aged 18 and over via an online panel managed by Norstat.

As Turkey embraces this significant shift towards electric mobility, it positions itself as an emerging hub in Europe. The trends and adoption rates indicate not just a growing consumer base for electric vehicles but a collective commitment toward sustainability and innovation in the automotive sector.
