New Energy Stability Initiative: Sendai Battery Storage

In an effort to boost energy stability and support carbon neutrality, Remix Point Corporation and Nippon Chikudenchi Corporation have collaborated on a significant project to establish battery storage facilities across Japan. These facilities aim to enhance the supply of renewable energy and promote a sustainable energy society.

The most recent addition to this initiative is the battery storage facility located in Aoba Ward, Sendai City. Known as the NC Sendai City Aoba-ku Kamiaiko Battery Storage, this plant is rated at approximately 2MW with an impressive capacity of about 8MWh. It officially began receiving power on April 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the project.

The NC Sendai facility is expected to enter the demand-supply adjustment market around August 2026, providing crucial stability to the local power grid. By integrating this facility into the grid, the project aims to contribute to a decentralized energy infrastructure, ensuring reliable electricity supply for the region.

As the global focus on renewable energy and carbon neutrality intensifies, securing 'controlling force' for stable power supply has emerged as a pressing social issue. Renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, often experience fluctuations due to weather conditions. Therefore, effective management of the balance between supply and demand is essential.

Future Developments

In addition to the Sendai facility, two more battery storage locations are set to commence operations soon. One in Kama City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is expected to begin operating in June 2026, followed by a site in Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture, slated for September 2026. Updates regarding the progress of each facility will be provided as details are confirmed.

As part of this collaboration, the organizations aim to advance the adoption of battery storage systems, making strides toward achieving a sustainable and resilient energy society.
