The powered wind tunnel tests, conducted at MIT’s prestigious Wright Brothers Wind Tunnel, focused on a 20% scale model of the EL9 wing. Results indicated astonishingly high lift coefficients exceeding 20, marking a lift performance 7 times greater than that of traditional unblown wings, which usually fall within the 2.5-3 range. Such results highlight the feasibility of using electric blown lift to enhance low-speed aerodynamic performance, thereby enabling safe operations from smaller locations such as soccer fields. Moreover, the tests confirmed that the EL9's performance meets all FAA Part 23 safety standards, ensuring reliable handling even at reduced speeds.

Supported by a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with the US Army, this ongoing research showcases the military's interest in leveraging Electra’s technology to enhance its capabilities. The Electra team is poised to refine the EL9 aircraft’s design further based on these wind tunnel findings and the insights gained from flight demonstrations of their EL2 prototype.

As of now, Electra has secured over 2,200 pre-orders for the EL9 from more than 50 global operators, valued collectively at over $10 billion, establishing one of the most robust pipelines in the Advanced Air Mobility ecosystem. The debut test flights for this revolutionary aircraft are set for 2027, with full certification and commercial operations forecasted for 2029 under FAA regulations.
