ChangAn Launches State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility in Rayong, Thailand
ChangAn, a leader in intelligent mobility technology and carbon emission reduction, has made significant strides with the inauguration of its advanced manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. This new plant is not only pivotal for ChangAn’s international expansion but symbolizes a shift in the automotive industry's approach towards sustainability and innovation.
The launch event coincided with the assembly line milestone, marking the production of ChangAn's 28.59 millionth vehicle. This accomplishment highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its global footprint through innovative manufacturing processes geared towards new energy vehicles (NEVs).
The Rayong facility embodies ChangAn's vision of a sustainable, low-carbon, and flexible manufacturing system integrated with intelligent digital technologies. This state-of-the-art plant features an impressive 90% automation level in critical quality control areas, setting a benchmark within Thailand’s automotive sector.
Among the key features of the new factory are five smart workshops dedicated to welding, painting, general assembly, engine assembly, and battery production. Each workshop is equipped with cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing efficiency without compromising quality. For instance, the welding workshop includes 39 advanced robots, while the painting section utilizes 29 robots equipped with high-tech spraying techniques. These innovations not only extend the lifespan of paint coatings by up to 15 years but also significantly reduce emissions.
Energy conservation is embedded in the plant's architecture, with a 14 MW photovoltaic system expected to supply 45% of the facility’s electricity. Features such as air recirculation towers, natural lighting systems, and rainwater recycling are designed to lower overall energy consumption and costs by 5%.
ChangAn’s approach to flexible production reduces manufacturing costs while maximizing the efficiency of high-value vehicles. The assembly line, which consists of 140 stations including 18 fully automated and 125 semi-automated setups, allows for the production of multiple models and powertrains.
Furthermore, the plant is equipped with an extensive digital ecosystem powered by microservice architecture, allowing for real-time scheduling of manufacturing processes. This efficiency reduces the supply chain cycle from 21 days to just 15 days. The ChangAn Quality Operating System (CAQOS) ensures stringent quality management across all production phases, monitored by 77 surveillance cameras and 62 automated inspection checkpoints, assuring remarkable quality control from start to finish.
Looking ahead, ChangAn aims to localize about 80% of production in its Rayong facility, generate approximately 30,000 jobs, and contribute to low-carbon growth and talent development as Thailand transitions towards a greener economy. The plant is strategically positioned as a hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, with ambitious goals to achieve over 5 million global sales and 3 million new energy vehicle sales by 2030. ChangAn has plans to launch 12 new energy models in the next three years while enhancing artificial intelligence features across its offerings.
In conclusion, the successful completion of the Rayong facility, which took 556 days and involved more than 2,000 dedicated employees and partners from around the world, marks a progressive step for ChangAn. Shen Xinghua, General Manager of ChangAn Automobile’s Southeast Asia Business Unit, expressed commitment to building a cleaner, smarter automotive future in Thailand and beyond, demonstrating the company’s long-term vision for sustainable mobility.
