On November 11, 2025, the exhibition showcasing Blanc de Chine porcelain was inaugurated in Talavera de la Reina, a city renowned for its centuries-old pottery tradition in Spain. This event marks a significant cultural exchange, bringing together remarkable craftsmanship from both China and Spain, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty and artistry of Dehua porcelain.
Located in Fujian Province, Dehua is celebrated as one of the birthplaces of Chinese ceramic culture. Wu Zhipu, head of Dehua County and leader of the delegation to Spain, expressed that the essence of Dehua porcelain is rooted in continuity. He noted, "Craftsmanship has been passed down from master to apprentice for generations, nurturing a lineage of dedication that has secured Dehua’s place on the global porcelain map."
This enduring spirit of heritage has cultivated a vast reservoir of talent, with over 6,000 professional ceramic artists currently working in Dehua. Among them is Master Artist Lian Deli, known for his remarkable piece titled Myth, crafted from ultra-thin porcelain just 0.2 millimeters thick—a testament to Dehua's finesse in porcelain artistry.
Lian shared that technological advancements have opened new avenues for traditional craftsmanship. He explained, "Using digital tools and precise firing controls, we can create thinner, lighter, and more transparent forms. Tools like AI and 3D modeling are not threats, but invaluable aids in the creative process; however, decades of handwork and experience remain essential for refinement."
Today, Dehua porcelain reflects a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, with exports reaching more than 190 countries and regions. The county hosts over 4,500 ceramic companies, and by the end of October this year, the industry witnessed a production volume of 60.2 billion Yuan.
As Dehua continues to expand its global reach, it has officially registered the Blanc de Chine brand in Spain, viewing the Spanish market as a strategic gateway to Europe, Africa, and Latin America. During the exhibition, Dehua forged a partnership with Talavera de la Reina aimed at strengthening cooperation in culture, trade, and ceramic craftsmanship.
Wu emphasized plans for establishing promotional centers for Blanc de Chine overseas, along with inviting Spanish partners to visit China. "We aspire for more people globally to experience the magic of Dehua porcelain," he said.
Looking forward, Dehua aims to integrate its ceramic heritage into cultural tourism, offering visitors from around the world the chance to engage directly with the legacy of what is often referred to as 'China's white gold.'
