VLS Environmental Solutions Expands Its Operations in Texas
VLS Environmental Solutions is making significant strides in sustainable waste management with the announcement of a new Alternative Engineered Fuel (AEF) waste processing facility located in New Braunfels, Texas. This upcoming facility is strategically positioned between the vibrant cities of Austin and San Antonio, and it represents the company’s commitment to addressing the growing needs for sustainable processing solutions for industrial waste.
A Step Towards Sustainability
Planned to begin operations by mid-2026, the New Braunfels facility will play a crucial role in supporting Zero Landfill initiatives. By transforming challenging-to-recycle industrial byproducts into engineered fuel products, this facility aims to diminish reliance on landfills. Furthermore, it seeks to replace traditional carbon and natural gas fuels that are currently used by cement kilns and gasifiers, thereby advancing cleaner alternatives.
VLS has been at the forefront of sustainable waste management, successfully diverting over one million tons of industrial waste from landfills each year through its existing Zero Landfill programs. The new facility symbolizes an elevation of these efforts, enabling enhanced collaboration with local manufacturers, particularly those operating cement kilns, as stated by VLS President, Keith Cordesman.
Leadership Enhancements
In conjunction with the facility announcement, VLS Environmental Solutions has also onboarded two key leaders to champion the expansion and capital projects. Jim Waisanen has taken the role of Senior Vice President of Capital Projects, bringing over 20 years of experience in the Specialty and Hazardous Waste sector. Meanwhile, Monica Johnson has stepped in as Vice President of Project Management, having managed an impressive portfolio of over 300 projects primarily at Vopak North America. The combined expertise of Jim and Monica is expected to significantly expedite VLS's ambitions in capital investments for sustainable projects.
Forward-thinking Vision
Rob Wheatley, Chief Strategy Officer at VLS, shared insights about the company's forward-thinking vision. He emphasized that the New Braunfels facility will not only expand operational capacities but also stands as a testament to VLS’s long-term commitment to scalable sustainability solutions. As VLS aims to lead the market in the region, this expansion juxtaposes innovation with responsibility.
Commitment to Industry Leadership
With a robust infrastructure for capital projects and established partnerships with valued clients, VLS Environmental Solutions continues to invest in AEF and Waste-to-Energy facilities. These efforts are geared towards empowering manufacturers to embrace Zero Landfill practices while further accelerating the industry’s transition to sustainable waste management.
