Impact of Pets on Air Conditioners: Insights from a Recent Survey

The Effects of Pets on Air Conditioning: Key Findings from a Survey

In an effort to better understand the bond between pets and home cleanliness, especially regarding air conditioning, a unique survey conducted by "Ouchi ni Pro" has unveiled some crucial insights. The survey primarily aimed to assess pet owners' perceptions about how their furry companions affect air conditioning units and the overall air quality in their homes.

Survey Overview

The survey, which took place in October 2025, was conducted online using Crowdworx as the research tool. A total of 100 participants, comprising 48 men and 52 women, shared their experiences and insights related to their pets and air conditioning.

Participants' Pets

Among the participants, the types of pets owned varied significantly. Most respondents owned dogs (60), followed by cats (42). Small animals like rabbits and hamsters accounted for 12 responses, while only two participants had birds. Interestingly, there were no respondents with reptiles, and one person reported having an unspecified pet.

Perceptions of Air Conditioning Impact

A staggering 50% of respondents expressed concern that pet hair and odors could influence their air conditioning systems. In fact, while 6 participants often felt this way, 41 reported experiencing it occasionally. A smaller fraction, 38, said they rarely noticed any issues, and 15 maintained that they never felt any impact at all.

Frequency of Cleaning

When questioned about changes in their cleaning habits since acquiring pets, 44% of participants acknowledged they have increased their cleaning efforts regarding their air conditioning units. Specifically, 35 participants indicated a slight increase, whereas 9 reported a significant change. Conversely, 54 individuals noted that their cleaning habits remained unchanged.

Focus on Air Quality

Another critical aspect of the survey delved into the measures pet owners take to ensure a healthy air environment for their pets. The findings highlighted that 63% of participants regularly ventilate their homes, and 49% utilize air purifiers. About 22 participants commit to routinely cleaning their air conditioning systems, while 30 only clean when they notice dirt. Alarmingly, 12 individuals have never engaged in any such cleaning efforts.

Concerns Around Air Conditioner Hygiene

Respondents indicated specific areas of concern regarding pet hair and odors in proximity to their air conditioning systems. The locations mentioned most frequently included the filter section (30 responses), air outlet (25), and the overall indoor smell (31). Additionally, 24 participants noted concerns around their pets' sleeping areas, while 28 did not have specific worries at all.

Interest in Specialized Cleaning Services

Given the concerns surrounding pets and air conditioning, the survey also inquired whether participants would be inclined to use a specialized air conditioning cleaning service tailored for pet owners. While only 16 expressed strong interest, 65 participants indicated they would consider it based on the services offered. A small minority, 16, felt it wasn't necessary, with only 3 stating any lack of interest.
