Global Youth Dialogue Showcases Chinese-Style Modernization in Guizhou

From July 2 to 6, 2025, Guizhou played host to the Tsinghua Global Youth Dialogue, welcoming 22 young representatives from 14 different countries. This event, themed "Opportune China, Youth Talks: Insights into Chinese Modernization from Guizhou Practice", offered participants unique cultural, technological, and ecological experiences that reflected China's distinctive approach to modernization.

Guizhou, often referred to as the "mountain park province", is celebrated for its rich ethnic diversity and breathtaking natural landscapes. The delegates had the opportunity to visit the renowned Huangguoshu Waterfall, the largest waterfall in Asia, where many expressed admiration for the province's commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental preservation. "Here, one can truly feel the harmony between humans and nature," remarked Nhial Deng, a young participant from Kenya. This sentiment echoed the idea that rapid development does not have to come at the expense of cultural or environmental integrity.

The dialogue also underscored Guizhou’s advancements in technological innovation. In Gui'an, a new development zone within the province, participants experienced green transportation firsthand by riding in self-driving minibuses, a testament to China's efforts towards smart and sustainable urban development. Ignacio, an environmental organizer from Latin America, noted, "China is making significant strides in combating climate change through technology, which is crucial for the planet's future."

Cultural heritage took center stage as well. At the intangible cultural heritage market "Xiu Li Tao" in Kaili city, international youth donned traditional ethnic costumes and participated in the "Village Runway Show". This event highlighted local craftsmanship such as batik, Miao embroidery, and wood sculpture, merging tradition with contemporary expression. Nadhira, a sustainable development official from Indonesia, remarked, "Traditional culture is alive here, transmitted and innovated by the youth. It is a powerful example for the entire world."

Technological achievements were further showcased at the Bailin River Guizhou Bridge Technology Museum, where digital twin technology and BIM modeling illustrated the province's advancements in infrastructure. Additionally, the "Red Banderole" museum provided an immersive digital experience of China's revolutionary history through holograms and virtual reality.

Fyodor Dmitrenko, a young delegate from Cyprus, reflected, "The transformation of Guizhou, from a less developed region to a leader in the digital economy, exemplifies how modernization can be inclusive and centered around people."

As their journey through Guizhou concluded, these young international representatives departed with newfound insights into Chinese-style modernization, eager to share the province's unique charm with the world.
