Thailand's PEA Mascot 'Watt-D' Shines at YuruBasu 2025
The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) of Thailand recently made its mark at the renowned mascot event, YuruBasu 2025, which took place on September 27-28 at Sumida Park in Tokyo. This festival is one of Japan's largest celebrating quirky mascots, and Watt-D, the official mascot of PEA, represented Thailand for the first time. Notably, his participation coincided with PEA's 65th anniversary, making the event even more significant on an international scale.
Introducing 'Watt-D'
Watt-D was born in 2022 and serves as a vibrant symbol of smart energy and sustainable development. The concept of Watt-D revolves around being “a little hero with lightning eyebrows.” This character embodies modernity, agility, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life through energy. The name Watt-D combines the term “Watt,” a unit of electrical power, with “Dee,” which means “good” in Thai, thus translating to “good electricity.” Furthermore, the sound of his name also resembles the Thai greeting “Waddi” (หวัดดี), giving him a friendly and approachable vibe.
Watt-D is designed in a way that reflects the core identity of PEA:
- - Golden Lightning Eyebrows: A unique and memorable symbol of electricity.
- - Purple Color: It represents authority, elegance, and pride, in line with PEA’s corporate colors.
- - Lightbulb Shape: This symbolizes safety, friendship, and familiarity in everyday life.
- - Digital Circuit Patterns: Symbolize the transformation towards a digital organization.
Purpose of Participation at YuruBasu 2025
Watt-D’s participation in the YuruBasu 2025 was not just a chance to showcase PEA's mascot but also a key opportunity to promote Thailand’s allure on a global stage. The event served as a remarkable celebratory project to mark PEA's 65th anniversary.
During the finals, Watt-D engaged with attendees through dance performances and Thai greetings, boosting the event's atmosphere. He also connected with other characters participating in the festival, enhancing camaraderie among diverse mascots representing various regions.
PEA champions the vision of “Smart Energy for Better Life and Sustainability,” and this event reinforced their commitment to continual improvement in energy innovation, service quality, and building international partnerships.
