Pratt & Whitney Expands GTF MRO Network

In a significant move for the aerospace industry, Pratt & Whitney, which operates under the RTX umbrella (NYSE: RTX), has unveiled its plans to broaden its global network of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) service providers. This expansion will feature the addition of ITP Aero, a Madrid-based company, marking an important collaboration that leverages both organizations' expertise in engine technologies.

A Collaborative Partnership

The partnership between Pratt & Whitney and ITP Aero is not entirely new; it builds upon a history of collaboration that spans over a decade. The new arrangement allows ITP Aero to join the ranks of Pratt & Whitney’s GTF MRO network, which is dedicated to servicing the PW1500G engines used in the Airbus A220 family, as well as the PW1900G engines for Embraer’s E-Jets E2 family. This deal will provide comprehensive MRO services along with testing capabilities, reinforcing ITP Aero’s role as a vital contributor to engine maintenance in Europe and beyond.

Keren Rambow, who serves as the Vice President of GTF Aftermarket and Transformation at Pratt & Whitney, emphasized the natural progression of this partnership. “Pratt & Whitney and ITP have partnered on the manufacturing and design of components for the GTF program for more than a decade. It’s a natural extension of our relationship to have ITP join the network, adding their MRO expertise to support the return of engines to our customers as soon as possible,” said Rambow.

Expanding the GTF MRO Network

The integration of ITP Aero into the GTF MRO network increases the total number of MRO facilities to 21, with ITP becoming the eighth facility located in Europe. This expansion enhances Pratt & Whitney’s ability to provide timely and efficient services to aircraft operators, streamlining the maintenance processes that keep their fleets running smoothly.

ITP Aero's expertise is not limited to maintenance; as a risk revenue-sharing partner, it holds responsibility for producing critical complex components, including the mid-turbine frame and integrally bladed rotors crafted from nickel for high-pressure compressor applications. This facet of the partnership not only guarantees quality in parts manufacturing but also facilitates operational efficiencies across the board.
