JFF Opens Applications for $34 Million Fund
Jobs for the Future (JFF), a prominent national nonprofit that focuses on transforming education and workforce systems in the United States, has officially launched a significant fund aimed at expanding Registered Apprenticeship in crucial sectors. This initiative, known as the Super Intelligence, Semiconductor, and Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Apprenticeship Incentive Fund, comes with a substantial budget of $34 million and is part of the U.S. Department of Labor's Pay-for-Performance (PfP) Incentive Payments Program.
Empowering the Workforce
The primary goal of this fund is to support industries that are experiencing high demand for skilled labor, specifically in semiconductor manufacturing and nuclear energy sectors. Maria Flynn, the president and CEO of JFF, stated, “As industries transform and new technologies emerge, the workforce must be ready to grow alongside them, building the skills and capacity to power innovation across the economy.” This initiative underlines the importance of apprenticeship programs in developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the challenges posed by evolving industries.
The fund is structured to offer $6,000 per new apprentice, encouraging businesses to hire and retain workers. This financial support aims to alleviate barriers for employers while simultaneously establishing pathways to quality job opportunities for those wanting to build careers in these critical fields.
Meeting Industry Demands
The pressing demand for skilled workers comes as employers in the semiconductor and nuclear energy sectors focus on constructing and maintaining essential infrastructure, including data centers and energy facilities. Recognizing this need, JFF’s initiative aims to foster stronger talent pipelines, ensuring that apprenticeship sponsors can effectively recruit and retain apprentices.
This fund aspires to:
- - Expand apprenticeship opportunities across more than 40 states
- - Support the hiring and retention of over 6,200 apprentices
- - Encourage the development of new and existing Registered Apprenticeship programs
With the PfP Incentive Payments Program, the U.S. is striving to reach the ambitious target of over one million active apprentices, a cornerstone of the previous administration’s workforce initiatives.
Collaboration for Future Growth
To administer the fund efficiently, JFF will collaborate with various partners, including industry representatives, sector groups, and workforce development organizations. This coalition includes renowned entities, such as Apprenticeship Alliance Inc., the Center for Energy Workforce Development, and the Global Electronics Association, among others. The combined effort aims to support sponsors in launching or enhancing their apprenticeship programs, effectively training workers in-demand across the nation.
Eligible sponsors of U.S.-based Registered Apprenticeship programs can now apply for this funding, with applications being evaluated as funds are available. Further details regarding eligibility, supported occupations, and instructions for applying can be found at

A Step Towards Economic Empowerment
JFF’s initiative is 100% federally funded and represents a commitment to transforming the workforce landscape in the U.S. By investing in education and workforce systems, JFF aims to cultivate economic opportunities for individuals, businesses, and communities alike. This initiative is a pivotal step toward realizing a more robust and equipped workforce, aligning with the needs of industries that drive today’s economy. As the application process opens, JFF anticipates a significant impact on the nation's ability to provide a skilled labor force prepared for the future challenges in critical infrastructure sectors.
