Mastering Texture Baking: A Seminar for 3DCG Creators on June 20, 2025

Understanding Texture Baking: A Crucial Skill for 3DCG Artists

On June 20, 2025, a must-attend online seminar titled "Polygon Night: Great Textures Start with Solid Baking" will take place, hosted by C&R Creative Studios. This informative session is designed for 3DCG creators eager to enhance their skills in texture baking, a fundamental process that significantly impacts the quality of digital art.

The seminar kicks off at 7:30 PM, lasting until 9:00 PM JST. Attendees will learn from three accomplished creators from the COYOTE 3DCG Studio, who specialize in environmental design. This is a unique opportunity to dive deep into the nuances of texture baking, an area often misunderstood by even experienced artists.

What is Texture Baking?

Before we delve deeper, let’s clarify what texture baking entails. Texture baking refers to the process of pre-calculating lighting information, shadows, and other necessary details to save them as maps or textures. This method allows for smoother rendering, especially when handling complex information in real-time applications. As tools like Substance Painter gain popularity, it's critical to understand that utilizing these resources effectively relies on strong foundational skills in baking techniques.

Why Attend?

Many artists fall into the trap of adopting a "just wing it" approach when it comes to baking. Unfortunately, this often leads to sub-par quality, regardless of the tools employed. During the seminar, our instructors will address common pitfalls and troubleshooting methods, emphasizing the importance of understanding the rationale behind every step in the baking process.

"Why do we perform these actions?" is a key question that will be answered as participants learn the design philosophies that underlie successful texture baking practices. This seminar not only equips participants with the technical expertise necessary to improve their work but also encourages a more strategic and thoughtful approach to asset creation.
