Sunway University Celebrates the Milestone of UN SDGs



In an inspiring event held on September 29, 2025, Sunway University proudly partnered with the United Nations (UN) to host the Rock the Goals 2025 celebration, marking the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. The celebration gathered nearly 1,500 attendees, including students, faculty, and esteemed guests from international organizations such as the UNICEF, World Health Organization, and several ambassadors from around the globe.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome and energy-infusing introductions by renowned radio host RD from Malaysia’s MIX radio station. As the night progressed, attendees were treated to exhilarating performances by notable Malaysian artists, including Zimi'J, a neurodivergent band recognized for its unique sound, and multi-award-winning artist Uriah See. The evening culminated in an electrifying finale delivered by the prominent electronic artist, DJ Blink, which kept the audience dancing into the night.

A standout moment of the Rock the Goals 2025 event was the Adaptive Fashion Show, showcasing sustainable fashion inspired by punk rock. This runway featured individuals from diverse backgrounds adorned in eco-friendly creations designed by the talented students from Sunway's Fashion Design and Technology program. The show emphasized the importance of inclusivity and revelled in the concept that fashion can be a powerful vehicle for change and activism.

Video messages expressing support for the event flooded in from influential figures worldwide, including globally renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, who congratulated Sunway University on their tremendous efforts in promoting the SDGs, remarking, "Sunway, you truly are a Campus With A Conscience." The event also featured a powerful speech from the United Nations Malaysia's resident coordinator a.i., Robert Gass, who encouraged the younger generation to take charge in helping achieve these vital goals. He stated, "To all the young people here, you are the heartbeat of this movement. The SDGs need your ideas, creativity, and courageous action. Music inspires and unites, reminding us that every effort – no matter how small – brings us closer to the world we envision. Together, let's continue to rock the goals!"

Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President and Vice Chancellor of Sunway University, expressed gratitude for hosting this historic celebration.
