Discovering the Wonders of Mud with DROAS!
In an exciting initiative, the clay beauty brand
DROAS (developed by I-ne, based in Osaka) has announced the launch of its
DROASobi project, focusing on environmental education. Starting from June 25, 2025, the brand will distribute free educational materials, including an original picture book and a mud-dango (mud ball) making guide, available on their official website. The aim is to spark children's curiosity about nature through enjoyable engagement with mud.
Background of the DROASobi Project
Beginning in 2024, DROAS aims to enhance children's well-being through hands-on interactions with mud, facilitating the development of their self-esteem, independence, and communication skills. Last year's workshop saw over 20 children participate, where they learned about the characteristics of mud while enjoying the process of creating mud-dangos. This hands-on experience was captured in a video, which has been selected for the Ministry of the Environment’s
2024 Environmental Education and ESD Practice Video Top 100.
To ensure broader accessibility for families and educational institutions, the project features an engaging picture book themed around mud and a guide to making mud-dangos. This educational package enables children to learn scientific information about mud through a friendly medium while gaining hands-on nature experiences after reading the book.

Professor Ichiro Matsumoto from Shimane University, who supervised the project, emphasizes the importance of engaging children directly with mud as a foundation for educating them about ecosystems.
