LanzaJet Expands Partnership with Microsoft to Fuel Global Growth of Sustainable Aviation Fuel

LanzaJet, Inc., a leader in next-generation fuel technologies, has taken a significant step forward by expanding its partnership with Microsoft. This collaboration aims to leverage Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to enhance LanzaJet's operational capabilities, supporting its mission to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on a global scale. The announcement comes as part of a multi-layered agreement that includes climate investment initiatives and renewable fuel purchases.

In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, LanzaJet stands out with its commitment to green technology. With this expanded partnership, the company anticipates improved systems for decision-making based on data, particularly in areas such as factory performance and supply chain optimization. "As a startup, partnering with established companies is crucial for growth. Microsoft has been with us from the beginning," commented Anne Sidio, Chief Transformation Officer at LanzaJet. This statement underscores the importance of collaborative relationships in the startup ecosystem, where resources and expertise are vital for scaling innovations.

The collaboration with Microsoft isn't just about infrastructure; it’s also about financial backing. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund was among the first to invest in LanzaJet, providing capital for constructing the Freedom Pines Fuels facility, the first commercial plant that transforms ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel in Soperton, Georgia. In 2024, Microsoft further solidified its commitment by making a direct investment, facilitating the global deployment of LanzaJet’s cutting-edge technology.

Moreover, Microsoft is an active buyer of LanzaJet’s fuels, utilizing renewable diesel and SAF certificates from future LanzaJet projects. This relationship helps Microsoft meet its ambitious sustainability goals, including achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. The technology partnership improves internal systems at LanzaJet while the company expands its global footprint.

Alistair Speirs, Senior Director of Azure Global Infrastructure at Microsoft, emphasized the importance of LanzaJet's mission in the fight against climate change. "The ongoing support of Microsoft demonstrates how enterprise technology can drive climate innovation. We are proud to partner with a leader in sustainable fuels and support LanzaJet's goal to decarbonize aviation," he remarked.

As LanzaJet broadens its project portfolio across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, the incorporation of Azure will enable secure and scalable connectivity between regions. This ensures robust data management capabilities in areas such as raw material traceability and emissions accounting.

This announcement follows notable recognition for LanzaJet, including achievements by TIME100, SP Global, and Reuters highlighting the company’s innovation, impact, and leadership in the clean energy transition.
