New Monument 'Encounter' Debuts at Tachikawa Station South Exit in November 2025

New Cultural Landmark at Tachikawa Station

On November 18, 2025, Tachikawa Station will welcome an exciting new cultural landmark: the monument titled 'Encounter,' featuring the city’s official mascot, Kururin, and the popular unofficial mascot, Udora. This initiative marks the 40th anniversary of the Tachikawa Kobushi Rotary Club, which aims to foster community spirit through meaningful contributions.

Symbolism of Diversity

The monument uniquely represents two characters with different origins—Kururin, the fairy of the city's flower, the Kobushi, and Udora, inspired by the local specialty, Tokyo Udo. Their juxtaposition embodies the message of diversity and coexistence: 'Different shapes, different colors; yet we stand together softly.' This stands in contrast to traditional rotary monuments, focusing on human connections and the warmth of community interaction.

A Community Gathering Spot

Positioned at the heart of the Tachikawa Station's south exit deck, the monument aims to be more than just an artistic display. It will serve as a friendly meeting point, a photographic opportunity, and a cozy space for residents to connect with each other. The concept behind the monument emphasizes 'placing the spirit of service in the heart of the community,' inviting people of all ages to engage with it daily.

QR Code for Greater Connection

At the base of the monument, a QR code will provide access to a special page on the club’s official website. This page will feature poetic messages highlighting the importance of recognizing diversity, supporting one another, and co-existing harmoniously.
