JLR and Tata Communications Expand Collaboration for Smarter Connected Cars
In a significant move for the automotive industry, JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) and Tata Communications have announced an enhanced partnership aimed at revolutionizing the connected car ecosystem. This collaboration is set to bolster connectivity in JLR's next-generation vehicles, ensuring that drivers remain connected even in the most remote locations across 120 countries.
With the integration of Tata Communications MOVE™, JLR is enhancing the connectivity experience by offering real-time vehicle location services, smarter driving experiences, and more efficient over-the-air (SOTA) software updates. This initiative is part of JLR's broader innovation strategy, which focuses on establishing universal connectivity while providing evolving digital functions powered by artificial intelligence (AI) for its customers.
Transforming the Driving Experience
The partnership will elevate the driving experience for JLR customers, particularly with the forthcoming medium SUVs built on the new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA). These vehicles will seamlessly switch between mobile networks, ensuring continuous access to customized connected services like media streaming. Furthermore, the platform will enhance data sharing between JLR and customer vehicles, facilitating faster SOTA updates and supporting the implementation of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Currently, JLR's fleet of connected vehicles generates a staggering 2.5 terabytes of data daily, with an average of half a million electronic control units (ECUs) updated monthly. The expanded use of Tata Communications MOVE™ will enhance this data exchange, allowing JLR engineers to gain deeper insights, monitor vehicle performance in real time, and implement quicker over-the-air updates. This transition not only aims to improve maintenance and service but also to cut down costs for car owners and JLR alike.
A Glimpse into the Future
Expected to hit the roads in 2026, these advanced vehicles promise a smarter driving experience. With the introduction of Tata Communications MOVE™, JLR customers will benefit from:
- - Robust wireless communication technologies to track their vehicles in the most challenging environments.
- - Frequent and substantial over-the-air software updates to enhance diagnostics and vehicle capabilities.
- - Personalized connectivity that keeps customers and their families linked to preferred vehicle apps and features, wherever they are globally.
- - Simplified connectivity plans accessible through a single provider.
